screw pops all over in bedroom, now more help!

Last week we started having screw pops all over our bedroom, started on one wall then everywhere. Now when I went in this weekend , found there are some in kitchen that must have been found Friday afternoon! My builder acts like he has no idea what is going on when it happened in bedroom, and I am really interested to find out what he has to say now. Do any of you have any ideas, I just dread what might be happening. Help!

New construction?
What stage is the drywall? first/second/final coat?

A lot of pops might indicate over-driven screws.
The surface 'paper' should not be torn under the screw heads.
Other causes would be the panels not held against the wood while the screws are driven.
The screw is not going to pull the panel flush very well without tearing the face layer.

New construction and we actually had already painted these rooms! It had been at least three weeks since the final coat on the drywall in the bedroom, and 6 weeks in the kitchen. It is very disheartening when the end seems to be in sight and then this starts. I am very scared it is going to happen all over the place. They were finishing the main floor before they start on the basement, so they will be around for awhile. I have a feeling that there is nothing to do but pray it isn't going to happen any more, it just makes me sick to even think about it.

What do you do now? Have patients, tend to the weeds, and watch for pests. In my opinion, you probably want to water two or three times per week for the first week, then down to twice a week for the next week or two then, as mudflapper says, once a week should be just fine unless it gets hot. I would increase the frequency of the watering for these first few weeks only because your seedlings need to develop their roots for a bit. However, you should be checking on your soil moisture several inches down. If it still quite moist don't water! When you do water, make sure you are watering deeply (ensure that the water is soaking the soil down to six or eight inches), then trust that the roots will get there. Have patients! Trust the slow release of your fertilizer, but watch for anything strange with your plants, especially off colors. If you get anything that is off color, check back here. If you start to see pests, take a picture and check back here. If other strange things begin to pop up, check back here. Have patients! You will, most likely, start to see some positive changes in many of your seedlings in a few days and most of them within a week. You will see some really dramatic changes at about two to three weeks. Steve Oh, did I mention that you should be patient? It's difficult, but try.

I bought my grass seed from a very reputable nursery - it is the exact same mix they sell to sod farms, and know this weed is just in my dirt, because it pops up in my garden when I water as well. So the seed isn't the problem. I've mowed it a few times now, and it is encouraging to see good grass mixed in with the weeds. Some weed killer, fertilizer, and more time will win the fight I think. Ok, I had given a punch list to my builder of things I wanted fixed before we finalized on the house. When I got home from work last week, he had tried to patch some of the screw pops and then touch up the paint himself. It looked horrible! You guys werent kidding when you said eggshell doesnt touch up well. I would rather see the screw pops. I told him to just stop patching anything for now and I would have the painter repaint the entire wall on the walls he has patched. My husband met with the guy we bought the lumber from and all he had to say about the extensive popping throughout the house was that it was probably the eggshell paint making them show. So this week my husband, our general contractor, the lumber guy, sheetrock people and the mudding rep are all meeting to see what if anything can be done about it. All I know is we cant afford to have the entire house repainted so at this point I think we just need to repaint what has already been patched and live with the rest for now. The rooms that dont get sun you cant even see them unless you shine a flash light on them.

"But what to do with the faulty screw? What would your nail punch do there? Confused ??" More often then not, a "nail" pop is a nail as opposed to a screw. If it is a popped nail, it will push the head of the nail beneath the paper surface of the sheet rock. Off course if it is a popped screw, less likely - you can screw it in OR out. Unless you have complicated faux paint finishes on the walls, the good news is that it is all easily repairable. Annoying, yes, but repairable. For a good mudder, this is a basic fix and when done you won't know it was there.

I learned the hard way that paint colors don't always match even if they are supposed to be the same brand and color mixed at the same store. If possible, locate the paint can(s) used to paint the trouble rooms so that you will have matching color for the touch up. Last thing you want are spots from touchup paint that doesn't quite match.

When we had that many screw pops it was because the drywallers had missed the studs with the screws. We had entire rows of screws that were screwed into nothing! Make sure to check for studs behind the screws.

That stinks. I would be furious. Wonder if maybe they didnt use the right screws. Sorry but IMO if you used drywallers (they are supposed to know what they are doing) this shouldnt have happened.

as brickeyee said, a common cause is the rock not being tight up against the wall. One reason this happens is that electrical outlet boxes may have been rocked over, holding the rock out 1/2". This happened in our old house. Dang rockers rocked over boxes and alarm boxes in EVERY room!! They were terrible. We are hanging our own rock this time around.
