guest bathrooms--tile or cultured marble tub surrounds?

In our present, 40 yr. old house, which has undergone several remodels, additions, etc., we currently have cultured marble vanity tops and sinks, cast iron tubs, tile surrounds. In the new house we are building, the contractor suggested tile shower and tub surrounds for MBR bath and downstairs guest bath, but for upstairs 2 guest bathrooms, cultured marble tub surrounds with cast iron tubs, cultured marble vanity counters with integral c.m. sinks. My question is this: is plain ceramic tile for tub surrounds, vanity tops, all that more expensive? Less expensive? Probably it's more labor-intensive. I like the classic look of tile so much more than CM, but so many advise "guest rooms will be rarely used, go for the CM". That is, friends and family here. But what is the CW out there in Garden Web land? I've found the maintenance of CM very easy, it still looks good, only problem I've had it staining around the drains in my two oldest sinks. Any advice!
