Large Capacity Counter Depth Refridgerator

My sister referred me to this site and we want to say how valuable the advice and information we received from reading all the posts has been to our project. We found just about all our appliances from opinions here. Our last stumbpling block is a large counter depth refridge. We want one with Door mt Ice/water and good filtration. We are looking at the Jenn-Aire JFC2290V in SS and the Kitchen Aid KFCS22EVMS

These are not door Mounted Ice/Water because we found that when you get that you loose capacity. Also, necessary to note we don't have the budget for a built in.

I have the Kitchenaid and I LOVE it! It is quite spacious, with a configuration that leads to placement of pretty much any type of item. There is a long shelf for platters, etc. There's a long drawer for large refrigerated items, split shelves and plenty of on-the-door shelves for condiments et al.

The freezer is not the typical black-hole bottom freezer. There are several "layers" of baskets that keep you organized.

AND it is beautiful to look at! We are very happy with it.

Great. That is what we came up with as well. We are going with the Kitchen Aid.

We're a family of five. We eat lots of produce and I cook at least once a day. I bought a CD Electrolux all fridge a few years ago and don't regret it. The one thing it doesn't fit well is a box of those huge 16" take-and-bake pizzas. I have to remove them from the box or clear a shelf that doesn't have a door shelf across from it when closed. My produce may overflow the available space in my drawer for a day or two, but that's not really an issue. I really love that it doesn't intrude on my aisle because the fridge location in this house is stupid. FWIW, my fancy Gaggenau oven doesn't fit those pizzas, either. I have to cut them in half. I wouldn't trade my oven for one that did. It's my precious.

We have a Kitchenaid Counterdepth fridge - 2 adults, and 3 small kids. I normally grocery shop 1 time per week (much less in the last 6 weeks). We have no problem. We do have a Kitchenaid beer / wine under counter fridge as well to store drinks, which frees up space in the main fridge. I do anticipate adding a second fridge into our basement when we finish that and our kids are bigger. However, we have a very large family extended family that we typically entertain quite often (1-2 times per month prior to stay-at-home) and have never had an issue with fitting in large platters. 30" counter-depth fridge for family of 4?

I love a counter depth fridge because everything is so easy to see and find. Mine is 36” wide SxS with 25 c.f. However, pizzas don’t fit, and at holidays fitting things like a turkey becomes a geometry equation of how to fit what where. Not to mention all the sides. My kids have left the nest but come back to visit a lot, so when there are 4 at home, plus friends, the fridge is not adequate and a source of frustration. Also don’t forget beverages and how much space they take up. I advise you to go to an appliances showroom where you can see the fridge you are considering, or at least a similar model. Bring with you an empty milk carton and a couple of favorite storage containers and platters that you put in your fridge. Put them in the 30” floor model —the visual is really effective. Don’t be embarrassed to do this. It’s an expensive purchase, and plenty of people do it. IMHO, if you have a spare fridge in a basement or garage, your 30“ fridge is do-able. Otherwise, it’s not.

We are about to order our first counter depth fridge, a Bosch french door. It will replace a large 20 year old french door fridge, which is similarly laid out and versatile in its organization (the Flex Bar appears to be the only different organizational feature). We will lose about 3 cubic feet of space in the refrigerated section. A second refrigerator isn't an option. Please share your best tips for dealing with the reduced capacity of a counter depth fridge. I'm concerned about regular use, as well as, holidays, when my adult children are home.

I'm basically looking for the same thing. Just a quick question...do you know if there's anything along the lines of a French Door, Counter Depth refrigerator with some kind of a satina finish? I have a KA dishwasher that I actually really like EXCEPT for the fact that I'm always cleaning the front.

I'm glad to see this topic! Can I ask either of you what prompted the choice of the KA over the JA? I've seen the interior of the JA and liked it but haven't see the KA.

I asked the question earlier here about a difference and one person mentioned that the KA has a wine rack (which is a nice feature).

Are there layout differences? Does KA seem more reliable?
