If you have been using your dishwasher for more than 6 months, please let us know if you would highly recommend, somewhat recommend or totally NOT recommend your model? Please make sure to list your specific make and model.

It has been almost 3 months since I purchased the Miele Diamante G2143SC Stainless Prefinished dishwasher and we use it every night. I have had zero problems with it and would buy it again. Everything I put in there comes out clean, including cookware with baked-on food. I'd highly recommend the Diamante model, or the model above it, the Optima, as that one has a few extra sensors.

We have had a Miele Optima G2470SCVi Fully Integrated Dishwasher in use for 4 months and we like this DW. Previous DW was a KA that we liked and we had a hard time understanding if we wanted/needed to spend >$1000 on a DW. We purchased a Miele Optima demo floor model that had been in use for 3 years at the appliance store and also received a free 5 year warranty. For us we were willing to go this route to understand if the purchase of a Miele justified the extra cost (for the future). Our biggest concern with a Miele were reports that dishes were wet at the end of the cycle. However, the trade off for us was that we could put plastics safely in the DW (plastics in the KA were destroyed). Our experience with the Miele has been very positive and when we need to purchase a DW in the future it likely will be a Miele. As far as wet dishes? We normally run the DW at nite and empty it in the morning. The dishes are still warm, clean and the dishes have never been wet (there is some ponding on coffee mug bottoms). We put plastics in top or bottom rack and they are not destroyed. We love the 3rd rack for the utensils. Another feature of the Miele that we really like is the "closed" tub/drying vs the KA method of drying that pulls air in from outside the tub. It is just my DH and me and we usually run the DW every other nite.

Data is what you've been getting above before your second post. Homeowners telling you that they use jetdry and their plastics come out damp (eandhl & paddy) to somewhat damp (lightly starched and then me). Effiemyrtle added her level on satisfaction on the dry plastics debate after your post. To this extent, this is all the data you're going to get in an anonymous, blind, unregulated forum, consequently, I still don't understand what you're hoping to get from your post. There are so many variables that govern drying performance - water conditions, jet-dry setting being just a couple of the variables. I will tell you that the majority of people who have reported being delighted with their european DWs are that way because they are taken with the fantastic WASHING performance as even quite messy dishes come out excellently clean. The quiet while doing so is the other big appeal. These are the two distinguishing characteristics. You're just not going to find people euphoric about the DWs drying results - we are all generally more than satisfied with that but we are thrilled with how reliably clean the DW turns up. Allow me to summarize what has been reported on this site on DWs: Most folks do use jetdry. Most folks for whom bone dry is a preference purchase domestic DW that does have a heated dry. Most folks with a bosch/miele/asko dw deal with the water that's left and don't find it too cumbersome. Some people really hate the dishwashers that they have bought (including the domestics GE, KA, WP etc.). ;-)

GMTA! I bought one of their platters from Ebay yesterday, it's one of the American Scenes, "Friendly Village" I think. This afternoon I found quite a few deals on some 10" plates from different companies, and I got all red and white. They're all of the English countryside. Did I tell you Ebay is addictive? :)

I have a similar system as hockeymom and lisa . . . I bought pegboard and the uprights separately. The only thing I don't like is that the uprights ar little sharp on the edges and I occasionally scrape a knuckle. Next kitchen I'll track down the dowels or go for the Ikea lifters, which I think are neat. My drawer is a 36" pots and pans drawer and it works great. I do, however, keep my glassware in an upper cabinet.

You can't go wrong with any dish with potatoes or cabbage in my opinion. Here are a few of my favorite recipes: Comments on Spinach Madeleine are made by Chef John Folse Spinach Madeleine Yields: 5-6 Servings This traditional Louisiana recipe was first presented in River Road's cookbook from the Junior League of Baton Rouge. It is safe to say that this single recipe made the book world famous. In the late 1990s, Kraft foods did away with their jalapeño cheese roll which was originally used in the recipe. Recently, an alert customer informed us that Kraft's Velveeta line introduced a similar Mexican cheese. 2 packages chopped spinach, frozen 4 tbsps butter 2 tbsps flour 2 tbsps chopped onions ½ cup evaporated milk ½ cup reserved spinach liquor ½ tsp black pepper ¾ tsp celery salt ¾ tsp garlic salt 6 ounces Velveeta Mexican cheese, sliced into ¼-inch cubes salt and red pepper to taste 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce Cook spinach according to directions on package. Drain and reserve liquid. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add flour, stirring until blended and smooth, but not brown. Add onions and sauté 3-5 minutes or until wilted. Add evaporated milk, spinach liquor and Worcestershire sauce slowly, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Cook mixture until smooth and thick, stirring constantly. Add seasonings and cubed cheese. I love my new Maytag 7809 dishwasher. I paid $625 in May, and even got a $75 rebate from Maytag on top of that. It has all the extras I wanted, such as stainless steel interior, steam clean option, silverware blast (I've never had to rewash any of the silverware, and I've put it to the test!) and a tiered top rack. The racks are sturdy and glide nicely. I like the fact that I have a drying option, but have found that I don't need it. I run it at night after dinner, and when I open it in the morning, the dishes are spotless and dry (I even have hard water!). I couldn't be happier. I could have spent twice as much and got a Kitchen Aid, but why when I can get perfect results with all the options I want/need from a $600 machine? The salesman made a comment when he delivered it, that these new Maytags are basically a replica of a Kitchen Aid.
Anyway, I am very happy with my dishwasher and the features I got for the price I paid.

I too am looking to purchase a new dishwasher, and am wary of difficult fingerprints on stainless steel, noise, as well as quality of cleaning. Any comments are appreciated!!

I have the 2 drawer Fisher & Paykel model DD24DCTX6. I love the 2 drawer feature. It is not the best cleaning dishwasher I ever had but I do not think they make them like they used to. In the late 1990s, I purchased a Maytag that was quiet and you could pile the dishes almost anyway and it would clean. (Unfortunately we had to leave it at the house we sold) When we built this house in the early 2000s, we installed a stainless Bosch. It did not work more than it worked.

The Miele units now have Clean Touch Steel, so that fingerprints don't show up as much. The unit I had before was an Electrolux, and we had to wipe the fingerprints off the front almost every day. But on the Miele it doesn't show fingerprints hardly at all, but we still wipe it down with warm water about once a week to keep it clean and shiny.

The Miele Diamante I have is also quieter than the Electrolux or GE Profile that I had before. There is no such thing as a 100% perfectly silent dishwasher, but the Miele is very very quite, If you are standing next to it while its running, all you hear is some water (rain) noise, not the motor running. Other than that you'll hear the water drain into the sink at the end of the cycles.

Just noting that if you have a dishwasher with a heated dry cycle (like the KA mentioned above), you can always turn off the heated dry if you want to put plastics in the bottom rack. You don't need a Miele to keep plastics from melting.

And sometimes, it's nice to have the option of the heated dry.

Re: the KA - We kept the heated dry turned off and were not able to even have plastics in the top rack without being destroyed. Perhaps we had an over agressive DW but it was only 2 years old.... We have not had the issue with the Miele - just our experience.

Just to note ... whether plastics can be wash/dried safely depends on the individual machine. My vintage-style KitchenAid with heated dry, I could load plastic anywhere. It dried by blowing heated air through the tub, with the heating element located outside in the blower unit.

My Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer can heat the water up to 163Â°F, and plastics are also safe (unless the water gets to a temp at which they melt/distort) as the element is hidden beneath the filter screen.

Given the generally bad reviews that seem to predominate here, I have to say that the Fisher Paykel twin drawer dishwasher that I have hasn't missed a beat in four years, cleans well and is reasonably quiet (compared to the antique it replaced, it's practically silent).

So, my experience = very good. But with so many reported problems, I'd give it no higher than a tepid recommendation for someone else.

And PS, the DW going into our new house will most likely be a Miele, possibly a 70-series KA.

Echoing the above to a degree, my F&P DD will be 7 years old on 8/21/2010 and hasn't needed any repairs. They don't fit everyone's needs and dishwasher lifestyle, but it works quite nicely for me.

I have an electrolux (ask if anyone needs the actual model - it is next to the top of the line) and I would not buy it again. It is stainless which is fine. It is extremely quiet which drew me. I can't even tell if it is on except for the water draining in the sink. And, it cleans great...never have rewashed anything. And, I never use heat dry. I only have to wipe of the tops of some glasses. BUT - I cant fit things in very well. It is frustrating. We had a kitchenaid in our last house and I loved it. Just the way the tines were - it was great. In the top I could have four rows of glasses and cups and still have bowls in the middle. I know this sounds knitpicky but it is so important to me. And, there were spaces on the outside on the bottom where I could put large casseroles - on the side and the front and still fit MANY dishes. Doesn't work on the Electrolux. I think the kitchenaids have changed a little though so I wasn't sure if that all was the same. Also - no big thing but there is no way to tell when my Electrolux is finished. Only the top of the line has a blue light which shines on the floor when finished. How cool is that?

I have a F&P dish drawer set (stacked), and have had them since 2005 when I installed in my new kitchen. These drawers have worked flawlessly the past 5 years, and I very much like them for so many reasons.

I had F&P DDs in my last house. They were already in the house when I purchased it, and I lived in the house for 4 years. I don't know how old the DDs were, but I never had a minute of trouble with those DDs, and that's why I never hesitated to install them in my current home.

If you do decide on the F&P DDs, be sure your installer REALLY knows what he's doing. It seems that the problems occur when the drawers have not been properly installed. A lot of installers think they install like other dishwashers (they don't!), and so they don't read the installation instructions (big mistake). I'd ask the installer to give you some references, so you can check with these people and see if their F&P DDs are working successfully.

It's a simple piece of machinery, all things considered....but it does need to be properly installed.

My last dishwasher (before buying the Miele) was an Electrolux Wave-Touch top of the line model I had 2 years ago. I didn't have a problem fitting things in there, and it did clean well and was quiet, but the door hinges on the sides kept rubbing the wood cabinets each time the dishwasher is opened and closed. How stupid is that? Also, the side-mounting screws would scratch the stainless door too. After 2 months we returned it back to Lowes. Now that we have the Miele Diamante, it's so much better.

KA KUDE60. One year old this month. My how time flies when you own a GREAT appliance (g) Love L-O-V-E my dishwasher! 3rd rack for cutlery but I've removed the silverware basket and use the 3rd rack for my silverware. This opens a large space on the bottom for deep bowls or pans or casserole dishes. It has heated dry but I've never used it. I load plastics on top AND bottom without incident. Quiet! No problem at all to have dinner and/or conversations in the kitchen or open plan dining room with dw running. Racks are highly adjustable. Configurations are many. I'm constantly amazed at how much I can put in my dw and it comes out CLEAN :) Best appliance I've every purchased!

I'm with research71 on this oneÂI love my Maytag. Granted you asked for 6 months of ownership, and I've only had it for two. But in those two months I've been very pleased.

I wanted the least expensive model that was stainless (in and out), had hidden controls and offered steam clean. I ended up with the MDB7759AWS for about $650.

The steam option is awesome. I always set it for the normal wash cycle plus steam and I let everything drip dry. I have yet to have food residue on anything. When I first got it I purposely didn't pre-soak a casserole dish with burn on mac and cheese - the dish came out spotless.

Supposedly it's a relatively quiet model, but it doesn't seem all that quiet to me. Honestly though, I don't care. By the time I set it, everyone is out of the kitchen and conversation has moved elsewhere.

I looked at other washers, some cost as much as $1500 and I can't imagine them being better. I mean, all I want is the dishes to come out clean with minimal effort. The Maytag delivers and looks good while doing it.

We have the KUDE70 and I echo everything Monica said about her KUDE60. We had 3 dinner parties last week (crazy week for us with company in from out of town) and loaded the DW to the max after each one and each time the dishes came out spotless. I don't pay a bit of attention to loading plastics and have never had one problem. I almost never use the drying option and at the end of the cycle still have just the water that collects in the top of some cups and glasses to wipe off. I recommend this DW to anyone who wants an extremely quiet appliance with the option of heated drying that you can load to the max and still have your dishes come out sparkling clean. HATE the Fisher & Paykal 2 drawer I bought three years ago. I feel like I'm constantly doing dishes since 1. It hardly holds much, 2. Can't fit large items in it, thus leading to lots of hand washing. I used to have a Bosch at my previous house and I'd get that again in a heart beat.

One of the few people here who have LG 6920 stainless, hidden controls but not steam, with all-stainless extra-tall tub. It was bought April 2009, so we've had it a little over a year. It is very quiet and holds 50% more plates than our old Maytag that was dying. I use a rinse aid, and am satisfied with cleaning performance.

We have had no issues with it at all, but online reviews I've read seem to be more bad than good, and Consumer Reports lists LG as the most repair-prone brand. So, not sure I'd recommend them. Maybe should've bought Bosch or KA.

Seems like most people are happy with their KA's so I think I will start with those. Many mixed reviews on the drawer DWs so will skip those. Thanks for the feedback...any more?

OK, a bit more . . .

I've posted before about my disappointment with the mid-range Bosch DW that I've had for about two years. I never realized how much depth was lost when I changed from an old Kenmore to this Bosch. I have a very tough time, even now, trying to fit in the amount and kinds of things that fit easily in the Kenmore. This was a big shock.

The silverware bins were so oddly shaped and took up so much room that I discarded them in favor of my old Kenmore bins.

Next, and much worse, is that it does a very poor cleaning job. Every load features something dirty. I have hard water, and I've tried every combination of detergent and rinse aids in varying amounts. So far nothing has solved the cleaning problem, and the one time I used too much powder detergent in an effort to get things clean, I etched all my nice new glassware.

Others here love their Bosch DWs!

But I wouldn't buy one again.

I have a GE model GDWT260RSS. I've only had it a couple of weeks but I can already tell you one thing that I HATE about it. I hate the configuration of the lower dishwasher rack. It does not fit my dishes well (the space between the tines is a little too narrow for my bowls). Thus, I cannot fit as many dishes as I used to with the smaller 17-year old Maytag that I just replaced.

When you go shopping for dishwashers, take a plate and a bowl with you and see how they fit. I never even thought to look at the way the rack was configured.

I'm also not really sure that I like the hidden controls on the DW. While it looks nice, on my old dishwasher with a dial, I could always easily tell where the dishwasher was in the cycle without opening it.

This model was on sale, plus I got a rebate on installation. I let the price sway me towards this one (I figured a dishwasher is a dishwasher) ... I'm already regretting this.

I have a few steps up from a bottom of the line Whirlpool dishwasher. It is a DU1055xtpq tall tub white. It is coming up on six years old. It is used three to five times per week. We don't pre rinse, but do scrape. I have not had one single problem with it. We have very hard water here and once per month I run a cup of vinegar during the MAIN wash of the pots/pans cycle. When I bought this dishwasher it was considered middle of the line. The next dishwasher I buy will be another Whirlpool or Maytag (Whirlpool) with stainless steel interior.....But as it stands, this thing just keeps doing a great job. I have to admit I add some STPP with the phosphate free dish powder I use.

I am very happy with my KitchenAid KUD40. In a second home I have a 3 year old GE that has one thing I like better - the racks are shaped to fit the dishes, while the KA's racks have straight holders. I think the GE holds cereal bowls and serving bowls better. (Excuse me for not knowing the proper term for the dish holders!)

I have the double drawer, Tall top tub F&P Dish Drawers. Model #DD24DCHTX6. It was installed in May, professionally. Even though I knew dh could do it, I really wanted to make sure it was done right so there would be no questions about the installation by the company or the store that we bought it from. In my case, paying the fee for the installation was worth it--they even installed an outlet under my sink to plug it into, turns out it isn't hard wired like other d/washers we have had.

This unit replaced a very nice Bosch. Only replaced it because it was black and the initial estimate to switch the door to ss was only $150, but when it came time to order, suddenly it was going to cost me over $300 for what I needed. Didn't want to spend that on an 8 year old d/w.

Did a lot of research, and as my last child is heading off to college in only a few short weeks from now, we went with the drawers.

They work great. I believe that they had issues in earlier models, but the place I bought it from told me that they haven't seen the level of service calls lately.

Ours has a water softener in it, we have very very hard water. My dishes sparkle. When the salesman told us that he went to a F&P meeting, the company rep put a layer cake in the dishdrawer, then they went to their seminar while the dd ran. When they came back, the cake was completely gone and the plate was clean. He said the unit was in the room, so he knew it wasn't a trick.

Our top drawer is larger than the bottom and it holds 13" plates.

It really works for our lifestyle.

We've had a Miele Optima (G2470SCVi) for almost 3 years and have been mostly happy. It's noisier than promised, it does not get plastics dry, and the cycle is very long (2+ hours). But those are relatively minor complaints to which I've adjusted. It cleans well, which is the most important thing to me. We had our first error message ever today, but it was my kids' fault for loading the wrong detergent. (Passive aggressive ploy to avoid dishwashing duty?)

It's paneled, which I still like, but in retrospect, I don't think was worth the extra cost and hassle. We had to special order a handle, and then when it came loose, it was a huge pain in the butt to get fixed. Not Miele's fault but could have been avoided if I just went with the stainless steel which I think would have looked just fine.

Stay away from GE. I like KitchenAid and Whirlpool with Maytag as 3rd choice. Check their db noise levels. Do a little research on the models you like with any outstanding recalls. I like Lowes with their extended warranty program too. Also, go their and ask if they are going to replace their floor models soon. I got a great KitchenAid for 300 dollars off that way.

Out of curiosity, why is Maytag your third choice? Isn't Whirlpool making them supposedly "somewhat better" than their own brand?

I like one model Maytag made, super quiet. I think Whirlpool will leave some Maytag models alone and others they will just clone from other brands they own. When I get ready to buy appliances I go to the web sites where the appliance repair guys hang out to see what the latest problems are for each brand. It can change from year to year likes cars often do. A certain brand might start going cheap on a certain part that causes a lot of repairs. I think Whirlpool closed one USA factory and moved that line to Mexico but now I see they are opening a line in Tenn. One thing I noticed about dishwashers was when you close the door does it have a nice solid feel to it or cheap, hollow? Also, look at the rubber seal around the door, the sprayers..etc...take some time to look at the little details.

I've got some expensive appliances but decided that how the dishes load was more important to me than the brand name and focused on saving money. I bought a Whirlpool Gold top of the line unit that was super inexpensive. We've had it for two years and I absolutely love it. The silverware fits in the door saving tons of space for dishes and it still gets them clean. It's got a stainless interior, tons of wash features, and an adjustable top rack. It also has a pot scrubber feature - put a lasagna pan facing the scrubbers and it gets them totally clean. I never rinse and barely scrape and it does the rest.

The only thing I wish it had were angled tines on the bottom so bowls would fit a bit better. But I make do by putting them around the outide or on the top.

Great buy. Great washing.

I have your basic $350? Maytag quiet series 300. Works fine. Don't use hot dry to save energy, so never damage plastic; top or bottom. A casserole might leave small stuff, but that will clean off with damp scrubbie sponge.

Did respond to heating element recall that meant dealing with E&K. There was no evidence of damage.

I've had a Jenn Air dishwasher for almost 10 years and absolutely love it! Best dishwasher I've ever had. Never a problem, and performs flawlessly! It was difficult to pick one out for our new house currently under construction. They all appear so flimsy, and everything is made of plastic. Guess they don't make them like they used to. Or should I call it "planned obsolescence".

I've had an Asko fully integrated dishwasher for 5 years now. It works wonderfully and has continuously except for one glitch. We had a housesitter who used too much soap in it...I didn't realize just how crucial that was and didn't make any big warnings about it. Anyhow, it developed a leak while we were away and it took 5 separate repair visits to fix. But now that its fixed its good as new!

The racks hold everything and it gets very clean. Next time I may buy another Asko, or just get a Miele. Asko was significantly less expensive...don't know how sensitive it is to soap quantity.

I had Asko for 10 years and LOVED it. It died.

Replaced it with Bosch. Hated it. It held about 1/3 less than the 10 year old Asko.

Replaced it after 6 months with a new Miele. The only complaint is that the cycle is SO LONG, about 2 hours. I don't have the kind with faster cycle because I have it paneled (the cycles are different when the DW are fully integrated or paneled). I do like the cutlery tray, however.

Bosch took about 90 min to wash dishes compared to Miele's 2 hours.

We've had an Asko 5233 since May. Loving it. We use it at least once every two days and have had no problems. It's very quiet, but not so quiet that you can't tell if it's on--that to me is a good thing; I want to know, without having to bend down and peer under the counter to see if lights are still on, if I can open it or not.

Also it looks great. Our version is the third picture on the link below, and it has the "TouchProof" stainless surface. Apart from the handle I haven't cleaned it once since May, I swear to god, and it still looks great. Obviously I expect that I'll have to clean it more once we have toddlers around, but still.

kaismom..the newer Asko's also can take 3 hours, though if you set it on normal wash and hit the express button its all done in about 45 minutes. It's great when its just plates, silverware and glassware.

I'm curious do find that the Miele cleans any better than the Asko, or the same? worse? For example, I've found that if I fully load the top rack with salad plates and deep soup plates that they won't all come clean, so I guess I've adjusted my loading to put those on the bottom and put more of the bulkier items up top with the cups, so I'd sort of forgotten that "problem". Glad to hear yours lasted 10 years...here's hoping for another 5 :-)

DO NOT GET AN LG as you will swear for years to come.
I got an LG dishwasher and nothing but problems with it.
In less than one year I have had three motors put into it.
THe noise is so loud you can not hear yourself talk.
It is a major problem with any LG dishwasher as was told.
You have to wait for the motor up to and more than 2 months as they are on back order.
The other problem is you have to use gel and not powder as it will not work or clean.
The other problem is it takes up to 2 hours to just do a normal wash.
The other problem is do not expect your dishes to be dry as you have to wipe them off when finished.
PLEASE do not let yourself be taken by the sales person like I did at the brick when asked which one is the best.

A temporary issue with the front control panel that resolved itself after a couple of weeks. Otherwise it's been whisper quite and great performer.
