interior doors and trim - do wood colors have to match - pics?
Comments (3)I'm doing several colors of wood. It is the nature of the material that it won't ever be matchy/matchy anyway. I don't have any pics up and am so busy I probably won't for a while, but the long and short is that: >my v-groove pine ceilings have a very thin coat of white glaze. These are the very high ceilings in the living room and adjoining /office loft. Looks like new sawn pine, was a one coat application, very important since I did it myself. >kitchen and dining ceilings are beadboard pine, stained a caramel color. Same will be used on the pine interior doors. >Windows have been done with Watco Oil. It is easily renewable without stripping, and gives a very deep hand rubbed look. >was going to use Watco on the trim boards, but due to the number of coats needed, I think I'll use a similar color minwax stain with a satin urethane topcoat. Same color is on the ceiling beams, and will be used on the door casings as well. I personally feel that the colors need to relate, but be very clearly different from one another so they clearly represent a design feature, not an oversight....See MoreAnyone have pics of satin nickel hardware on a wood door?
Comments (3)I have all natural wood doors (and windows) with 1980's antique brass finish hardware. When I recently replaced my french doors, I selected an aged brass that is halfway between what's everywhere else in the house and ORB. I really prefer the warmness of brass/bronze with wood. Here are some pics of satin nickel (not my home). The first one is very bright, the others are more muted, which I think looks better...so it might depend on the color of wood and the brightness of the hardware. I found quite a few pics with nickel finish hardware similar to this, where the hardware is very contemporary and chunky. I think it looks great, and probably better than a darker finish, but it's really all about the hardware. Comments (24)From a pure functionality perspective, I don't really much care for that piece. I'd be worried that the baby might get his head bumped against the raised ledge on the right--either by someone changing baby or later by the baby himself if he tried to sit up or was squirming. In addition to the issues that you brought up regarding the stain, it just does not look like a well designed piece of baby furniture. It looks like a piece where they are trying to make it still be useful after the baby stage. Chances are, however, you will invest in a new set of children's furniture in 2-3 years and may want a different coordinated look so just get a simple changing table that works for the next 1-2 years and assume you will either use it for another baby or get rid of it. BTW, for my 3rd child I did not even use a changing table as I had disposed of the one I had after baby #2 and was not about to spend a few hundred on such a temporary piece of furniture. I just used a good quality pad which I slid under her older sister's bed and more often than not I changed her on the bed with a plastic pad below. Diapers I stored in a cloth diaper stacker....See MoreInterior wood door panels shifting.
Comments (6)What you are experiences is a very common occurrence in winter, when the humidity is low, and there is not a whole home humidifier adding back moisture. Wood shrinks. Flooring, cabinets, and millwork warranties all specify a range of home humidity that should be kept. Call your HVAC company and talk to them about having a whole home humidifier to your system. And use your AC in the summer, or you'll have the opposite problem with the swelling up!...See Moreallison0704
