You not only don't need a data plan, you wouldn't be able to use one because this tablet connects to the Internet only through Wi-Fi. All you have to do is be able to find a hotspot.

GET IT!! that is an amazing deal it is one of the few that I have see that is running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich which is the absolutely latest version, I do not even own one with 4.0.
It is fully loaded, the only draw back is the resolution but it is what most tablets come with, my Vizio has a higher resolution but I would not let that be a deterrent.

I am going to be really tempted to get this one myself! Nextbook does make pretty good quality tablets. You can do anything you need to do with this tablet, and it comes pre loaded with a ton of apps you may want to get rid of some of those at some point and I would definitely get rid of the ones that are trials and want you to purchase the app.

I would give it a big YES. I bet they sell out fast.

It only has wifi so you connect through any open wireless network. No monthly service fees connected to the unit

I am going to also add that for anyone that wants a super fast super cutting edge tablet you probably would not want this one, but for the average user that will be doing email, surfing, reading ebooks it would suffice fine.
There are some limitations like it is not a dual core processor but if you are not doing heavy duty stuff this processor can run fine, mine is not a dual core and it is quite spiffy. The resolution might be a deal killer for some but again for the average user not that big a deal in an 8" screen. It will not be as sharp as a higher resolution screen of course.
As most tablets it uses a SD card for most of the storage of your books apps pics music etc. So you do have to buy your own card.

Debi if that is the kind of use you were planning for it I do think it would work fine for you. One plus is that you would be dealing with HSN and not a China seller so if you have problems returns would be much easier and there is the option of payments too.

one other thing that should be mentioned it does not have the Android market app store it has GET Jar which is also a good app store and you can easily add the Amazon app store between those and a few other ones you can easily get by with out the Android Market.

Thanks. I ordered it earlier today, then cancelled due to reading about the lack of resolution and some were saying it has an old processor. Then I ordered again after reading your post and finding other positive reviews. Being a first tablet for me, I have 30 days to play via HSN's return policy and see for myself.

Mainly it will be used when I'm not here at home/office to check emails and surf web when I need to. I won't be using it for much more than that and this one will be experimental to see how I like using a tab. (I really want the new Samsung Galaxy Note, but can't justify paying for a monthly data plan since I work from home where I spend a lot of time which I consider bittersweet). Hopefully, this tab will beat having to take the laptop here and there, and even on vacation when I don't want to carry extra stuff, if hot spots are plentiful.

it should be just fine for what you are going to do with it, you do know that on any of the tablets you do not have to buy any plan just don't use that aspect of the tablet only use the wifi.(Smartphone would be different of course) You only buy a data plan if you plan to use it in areas with no wifi and you need to be cautious and watch the amount of bandwidth you use so you do not go over you allowed limit.
I do not take my netbook or laptop any longer just my tablet I have been able to do what I need from it and the places I have been all had available wifi.

Yes that is why I mentioned buying it from them you have a good return option with them so it really is a great way to give it a good try and see with out losing anything.

Got my Nextbook yesterday and I like it a lot. It's nicely responsive to the touch (unlike my Tracfone touch screen), and it's more than adequately fast for browsing and the like. The resolution is good, IMO. Pretty easy to set up it and has plenty of widgets. Camera pics are, well, it's a tablet, not a camera - need I say more.

It is lacking a contact address book & a task scheduler though, but I'm sure there's an app for that. Let me know what apps are noteworthy or stores to get them from...preferably free since I'm still test driving this for 28 more days.

I'm glad I bought it, so now, as long as it continues to work as it is now, it's a keeper, and is so much better than I expected.

You definitely want to get the amazon app store apk, just Google that you will find the link to it, you do have to have an account set up with them.

If you have Gmail you can sync it with your contacts there and the calendar.
There are definitely aps for that too.

this is a very good list of other app store options you can install, I would definitely get slide me if you do not have it, get jar the one that I think is on yours is also good and often has free apps that on other sites are pay for apps.

As long as you stay with the well known markets you are ok, what I recommend is reading the user reviews of the app and look at the number of downloads of the app, if it has been downloaded many times you can be pretty sure it is a clean safe app. It can and has happened that even on the actual Android Market an app gets listed that has malware on it but they find them pretty quickly and pull them.

I would just hit some of those main app stores and start downloading a few you think are of interest if you don't like them or if you find they do not work right on your device you can easily uninstall them through your managed applications in settings. I have found a few that were created for smart phones that just will not work right on a tablet.

Thanks Raven. I just saw your post today, but was checking out the Amazon apps last night along with reviews and # of downloads after doing a search on "free apps".

I'm still on the fence with this Nextbook. What I like is the 8" portable size and it's easy to use. What I don't like is not being able to get a wifi connection anywhere I've been so far (I live in a very populated area). Two (inside) places I tried to get wifi had secured internet in which the people didn't know their password. I couldn't even pick it up at 2 busy shopping center parking lots. Wasn't too happy about that as I don't expect to have to hunt down a Mickey D's or Starbucks to get wifi.

The reviews on HSN haven't been too favorable on this tab as buyers can't get Netflix or the Android market; neither of which bothers me any. Reviews aren't shown on HSN any longer since the unit is sold out. The battery life, especially browsing, isn't good and that's something that's important to me.

So, I'll be testing it out for a few more weeks. I really want it to work for me since I do like most things about this tablet. I was tempted to get an IPad, but prefer the 7-8" smaller tabs, and I can do without the monthly data plan along with the ridiculous price tag.

Battery Life is not great on tablets but there are several ways to help it, adjust your screen brightness bring it down as much as possible, make sure that you don't have a bunch of apps that start up on boot there are several apps to help control your apps, if you are not using wifi turn it off that will make a big difference, I can make mine last almost twice as long if I pay attention to those details.
Remember that the free wifi places don't want you to be able to get the wifi unless you are in their premises so no surprise that the range is throttled. I would suggest trying at the library. Many places get down right upset if people sit in their parking lot and use wifi with out a purchase.

I have never had any problems connecting at people's homes once the wifi password was used. But I rarely try to get access at hotspots, I just am not to trusting of open connections.
