Need help!! Bad Contractor job on vinyl window hail damage
Comments (21)Update: One window guy came out, never got back to me, second one says he can remove that middle transom, send to a factory, have them make a replacement with the same glass (several hundred dollars probably), and third guy (and the first guy) said no way to remove just that middle window, have to replace the whole thing, that the window is wrapped with a metal piece and screwed together so no way to access the window and remove it. Last guy says he has been in business 35 years and the company he works for 30 years so knows windows. Says $3600 for a whole new alliance window (apparently the current window is certainteed and Alliance bought them). He also says he is really good with getting the insurance companies to pay up even though it is past the 12 month limit they put in their paperwork. I hope he is right!!...See MoreHelp! Comments (6)Hire a professional painter who takes pride in his work! Believe me, that's a rare breed! We finally found one, but not before enduring the GC's so-called professionals. The guy we hired is re-doing what wasn't done right in the first place. I've learned not to assume just because someone's a painter that they automatically do all the prep that's necessary for a good paint job....See MorePoor tile/grout job? Advice please for dark grout
Comments (17)I would use white caulk in the corners, not gray. This is because the tile layout should look like the tiles bend around the corners. i.e., half a tile on either side of the corner, or 1/4 on one side and 3/4 on the other side. So a contrasting caulk would cut the tile visually and eliminate the illusion of the bending tile. Also, always caulk, not grout, when you have changes of plane. Finally, as others mentioned, you should not have slivers of tile on the ends or corners. You fix this by shifting the tiles. So on the RH side (I assume this is your first photo), the pattern should be shifted 1/2" to the left, so that in the corner you have full tiles or half tiles, every other row. Then on the left corner the tiles will all be pushed down 1/2" so that the wrapped around portion that's now about 1" becomes 1 1/2" wide....See MoreHelp - bad grout job by contractor? And what next?
Comments (9)If it's a wall tile then at least it won't be exposed to water. Unless it's a shower wall. If its just a wall you can fill the holes with grout but in general the overall look is pretty bad so you may want to remove a few mms of the existing grout so there's enough depth for tht new grout to adhere and fill in. Like mentioned above you should check what grout was used. It amazes me "professional" tilers have results like this. Grouting isn't rocket science. Takes some work but just read the instructions on the damn package!...See Morempwdmom
