Penny Rounds On Floor-All That Grout?

How have these held up on the floor? If you use an epoxy grout is it still hard to clean? The problem is any irregularity really shows up easily, whether it a slight misalignment, or a slightly dirty area of the grout. These seem like they would be really hard to keep clean with all that grout. Are they?

Anyone sorry they used them because of these issues?

Keep in mind that most penny rounds are mounted a little tighter than the ones that have been shown here recently. I, too, thought that was an awful lot of grout.

We have penny rounds on our main floor powder room floor. They were in the house when we bought it 10 years ago. I don't particularly care for mine at all and they will be removed. It is a lot of grout. I don't feel the floor ever looks clean, the grout has cracked in spots and the there is one spots where when you are there doing what the room is meant for, you see an error in the installation job - the rounds aren't set right. Someone else may not notice it, but I do every time I am in there. We are taking it out this fall as we redo the powder room.

Yes. Smaller tiles equal more grout to get dirty, stain and eventually crack and fall out. Fixing it would be a nightmare on a whole floor. I had a backsplash in an old house of that kind of tile and I would not recommend it on a floor, especially in a laundry room. Use some large, durable, non-porous tiles that can be easily cleaned. Or use real, old-fashioned linoleum - it is back in style. Some of it is beautiful and you will have no grout at all to worry about. Good luck with your laundry room.

Tell your installer he owes everyone here for tryin to help him out of a jam!! LOL Well, everyone but me. He did an excellent job installing the tile, too. Penny rounds aren't all that easy to keep from seeing sheet lines, etc. Seriously, if you want to change the color, a grout colorant is the best way to go. Not only will it change the color to what you want, but it'll also make it much easier to keep clean, being that it's a one part epoxy coating that won't allow the dirt to get into the pores of the grout. For all intents and purposes, it'll permanently seal the grout.

I would chose a cast iron base if that were an option, but the size is incorrect. I find the other options less appealing, but I think there is no reason to really research them.. Given that the person tasked with dealing with this is a tile contractor, I really doubt anything but a tile replacement is an option under the warranty. And honestly that seems fair to me. The tile contractor is going to be losing money on this. At least with tile replacement, he's getting whatever discount he can out of his suppliers and he's paying his own employees' wages to do the work. And I think like for like replacement is really all anyone can reasonably expect under a warranty. (And changing to a curbless shower and/or linear drain seems like an entirely unreasonable request. Those would require substantial changes to the shower build and would be a substantial up charge. No way do I have a basis to ask for that.) thank you!

What color grout for these penny rounds?

Wow, what a beautiful bathroom! The sample I'm referring to holding the swatches up to is my tile sample (the one I posted a pic of). I mentioned in my original post that they're darker in the picture than in person, but the vendor picture (link in original post) is a better representation. I went back to Lowe's and looked at the grout again (even though I ordered the Rain today and no refunds), and the warm grey, silver and grey pearl are definitely not a match. The silver is close, but it doesn't match any of the colors in the tile. Rain at least matches the lightest tile, which is why I was thinking it'd work. Ugh, I love the tile so much, but had no idea the grout was going to be this challenging!

I'm in the process of retiling my bathroom floor with penny rounds (I have pics posted on my thread - 'tile at bathroom threshold). The tile installation was terrible and I'll have to have them ripped out and reinstalled...so please learn from me and get a master tiler. These aren't as simple to lay as big square tiles. As far as the grout goes, I chose a medium blue grout and plan to have the grout sealed also to help with stains. When I look at the floor, i don't see alot of grout (I DO see the crooked tiles right now) but I LOVE the look of penny round tile so am willing to put a little extra TLC into them.
