Everything looks squashed in widescreen

I just got my first widescreen monitor (two of them, actually), and find everything looks slightly compressed (vertically). This is not good, especially since I work with photos a lot.

From what I've been told about widescreen TVs (which I don't own), it sounds like I need to change the aspect ratio. Is this true? If so, how do I do that?

What's the make & model of the screens? Did you install the driver from the cd that came with them.

They're Acer X223WBD. A friend installed them yesterday, and I didn't watch what he was doing. But I think he said something like, "Oh, it looks like we don't need the driver." :-)

its not a fert issue.. rarely if ever is ... i dont understand.. you start by saying you looked out the window.. and finish be saying everything is in the house ... i thought CO had some freak snow storm about a week or so ago ... how cold did it get ... was any of the stuff outdoors... take the houseplant issue to the houseplant forum .... simply to reduce this post.. the tree damage sounds like frost/freeze ... it should rebud.. if it losses those leaves ... it should be time.. for the veg to get outdoors .. first hardened off to sunlight and temps ... ken

That's a female flower with a baby squash--waiting to be fertilized! If it doesn't get pollinated when it blooms, the "cute little squash" will shrivel up and fall off! If it gets pollinated---you've got squash!!! Sometimes female flowers get going before the boys show up, so there's nothing to pollinate them with, so don't be too disappointed if your first flowers don't get pollinated. Blame it on the guys!!! The male flowers don't have the tiny baby squash at the bottom, so if you have any males when the females open, you can take a little paint brush and pollinate them yourself, just to be sure. Hi Susan, I would go with a widescreen. Widescreen is the future(which is now).Yes they do take up a little more space (width)but it's not much. The upside of widescreen is you can have 2 windows or webpages open side by side and be more productive.Granted widescreen is a little more expensive ,about $30 or $40 more then a"standard" monitor but it's worth the little extra money. Most people consider a 19"monitor the new standard size whether it'widescreen or standard.You can get a 19",20",or 22"widescreen for $209,$233,and $289 respectively. Hope this helps ya. Eventually, I think some time in 2009, the broadcasting standards will change entirely to digital. Then all programs will look normal in 16:9 aspect ratio. nope, that won't change a thing UNLESS they also choose to reformat the show at the broadcast end. several local stations are full blown digital already and the network shows fill my screen in HD. but the local shows are still 4:3 formatted and look like crap stretched. i solve this by simply hitting the Aspect button on my remote to set the screen as needed for that show. even onthe HD channels i get older shows have not been reformatted to fit properly. it can get aggravating, i may as well watch them on my old 27" TV because with some shows that is about all the picture you get anyway on a widescreen. oh, and the date that analog stops is Feb 17th 2009. on that date ALL analog TV EXCEPT low power local and relay stations must change to digital. i work with 3 different local station owners that do not have to change due to their being low power TV. but pretty much all the big netwrok station affiliates will be required to change.

Always need the current the drive just because the screens come on doesn't mean everything is going to function.

Have you tried adjusting the display resolution by right on an empty part of the desk top select properties "Display adjustments.

Do you know the name of the video care installed if there is one as it may be on board graphics..

The way to find out is Start>run in the run box type "Devmgmt.msc, in there look under "DIsplay adapters for realtec or something link that.

Have you tried adjusting the display resolution by right clicking on an empty part of the desk top select properties "Display adjustments.

This will be trial an error as you try different settings

I adjusted the resolution last night, lowering it so that the icons and test becomes a size I can see with my less-than-stellar vision.

Under display adapters it says:

Intel(R) 82865G Graphic Controller
RADEON 7500 SERIES

Does that tell you anything?

I'm going to let others respond, perhaps those that have a widescreen as I think it's an adjustment somewhere not sure where.

RADEON 7500 SERIES---> I believe that is your Graphics card.

You adjusted the resolution to what?

My 22inch is set to 1680 x 1050 to give you an idea.

I have a 24" Dell Monitor.

I just checked my settings... Control Panel>Display> Settings. Mine are set at 1074 by 768 and that seems right. No distortion.

Mine are set at 1280 x 1024. The highest resolution allowed is 1680 x 1050. There are other 1280 x _____ options, so perhaps I should explore those?

Eureka! Changing the setting to 1280 x 768 did the job. Perfect! Thanks so much for your help.

Glad it's going I knew I was on the wrong path with the driver stuff and stepped out of the way an it worked......
