Vanity top to go with Crema Marfil bathroom?

Hi All,

FYI - I also posted in home decorating. We're working on a bathroom that will be totally crema marfil (tiles, bullnose, etc). Initially I liked the idea of breaking it up and having a black vanity top (i know issues with black)...i won't have black anywhere else in the bathroom...do you think it's too harsh? have been in many great bathrooms where I saw this and it worked, but now second guessing. I see the choice as either going with something completely different (black) or doing something exactly the same (crema marfil marble top)? What are your thoughts? Thanks as always -- have to make a decision this week!

You know I was struggling with this also. I've decided also on the crema marfil shower and huge surround with some accents. I decided to do the vanity top in the same crema marfil after thinking it through. I love the look of breaking it up, etc, but for me I just really fell in love with the cleanest look of it all being the same. Matter of fact I just ordered it all!!!! I know what you mean, I've struggled with this but this is the look I've wanted - calmness in the simplicity of it being the same.

We had same quandary. The addition we are building includes a new (small) powder room. Went a little overboard!! We chose a crema marfil floor 5/8 inch mosaic, marble subway tile walls and a crema marfil chair rail. The vanity is a light (pecan) brown and the vessel sink is a lighter marble. I didn't know I liked marble so much, but it all looks great together. And for the vanity top we picked a beige and brown granite. I am hoping that it looks good as well -- not too much stone. Vanity gets installed this week. I will post pics.

We used the Crema Marfil for the backsplashes in my kitchen reno and love the beauty of it. Our cabinets are all a dark brownish cherry and we went with Silestone counters in "Dark Canyon". It's a mixture of browns, cream and black and we love it. My good friend used a gorgeous, rather plain black marble for her counters. While they look stunning, they're also a HUGE PIA to keep looking nice, as they show every last little water spot and fleck of dust! The color of your counters will set the tone for your bathroom. If you use a black, I think you'll need to incorporate that into the accessories of your bathroom to help balance the dark and light . . . which would look gorgeous, if that's a look you'd like. Texashottie's idea to use the Crema Marfil on the counters and paint (or stain) the vanity itself is another good idea. I think, if this is a home you plan on being in for a while, you need to decide which direction you want the accessories to go and then pick your counter color. The Crema would give you more options, but either would look great, I think.

Any favorite colors or colors from surrounding rooms to consider? Is this a custom vanity or are you limited in choices? I think a navy and khaki bathroom would be great for a boy and work well with that countertop. What about a navy vanity with brass hardware? And khaki walls?

Millworkman, I think I must have read somewhere that you shouldn't use granite on MDF cabinets Patricia Colwell Consulting, the vanity does not come with a top. It was just shown with a top. The Hayneedle website description said it was just the cabinet and it is just the cabinet (arrived this past Friday). Siamesey, I hear ya but since I spent a ton of money converting the tub to shower, I have to save where I can. Unfortunately, when you combine the needs of my mother (the main user of this bathroom), the style that I would like, along with the need to work around the plumbing location, I actually don't have a lot of choices. It's been really hard to combine the first two of those and find a vanity with drawers on the left hand side (the plumbing dictate). I looked at custom made and even semi custom made and no, I can't do that. Even though the vanity is made of MDF and is RTA, to me it has better quality than some of low end all wood vanities that I've seen. Also, most of the cabinets I've looked at still seem to have MDF in them somewhere, especially white cabinets which is what I wanted for this bathroom.

We're having the same problem. I finally was able to find a picture with the color scheme I'd like for the bathroom but thought that a crema mafil vanity top over a completely crema marfil tiled bathroom, including shower, would be overkill. Since we might have extra Nougat Ceasarstone leftover from the kitchen, I was wondering if I could use the Nougat as the vanity top next to the crema marfil.
