Your siding color suggestions for this little house?
Comments (28)We rarely get updates on planned projects on GW but I'm thrilled to present one now! We started the process in April 2017. He was understandably reluctant to accept help for months, but we assured him his numerous nieces and nephews wanted to help. We donated money, helped tear out the overgrowth and hired reputable contractors to replace all the windows, put up vinyl siding, new shutters, new doors and storm doors. He is so happy about the changes and has accepted our help. We guided him but he chose to keep the brick and he chose the colors and even the door style. (He likes yellow but immediate neighbor has yellow siding.). We took small steps but ever forward, encouraging him, assuring him and thanking him for the generosity he has shown all of us for 50+ years. I've said before he is a dear and inspiring man. Here are a few before and after pics. Front porch will be replaced this month as weather allows. Thank you all for your great advice and kind words....See MoreNeed help picking siding color for cottage
Comments (25)If your house is well insulated, the darker siding shouldn't affect internal temperature, as nsc6 said. The only way you can assure you won't tire of the house is to use something like HardiPlank that you can paint in 7 to 10 years if you tire of the color. It's quite a bit more expensive than vinyl though. Will you be living here full time or is this a vacation home? If it's a vacation home that you won't be driving up to every day, I think it would be a nice change to have something a bit different than you see driving down your street to your home every day. If it's a weekend and vacation getaway, it should feel special. Honestly, it should feel special even if it's going to be your everyday home. You could leave the brown window trim. It would work well with the cedar siding....See MoreExterior Design & Color Help (2-storey Half Brick - Half Siding)
Comments (8)Ha, ha. Aluminum siding really is wonderful. The only reason we painted ours was because it was a horrible color, that fake redwood color. So very dated even 20 years ago. You should probably power wash the siding. Once the shutters are down, I'm sure their prior location will be noticeable since it will have no dirt underneath except for those bugs who have built their home there over the years (at least ours did). We were told that the only reason to replace aluminum siding was if the wood underneath was rotten due to water damage. If you don't have any leaking from your gutters, you are probably okay. If you ever do replace it, take it to a scrap yard for $$....See MoreHelp with exterior colors for Cape Cod update!
Comments (16)I love when the exterior of a home acts as an introduction to the interior. If I were selecting the colors from the picture posted by @Jilly from Maria Killam's website I would want to walk into a home with fall colors, not a home that was decorated with coastal colors. I am painting the exterior of my front door a deep red. When you open the door you walk into a foyer with purple red and green slate. The red door will match the red in the flooring. Red is an accent color that is used throughout my home. You may also notice that the pink brick wall (back of living room fireplace wall is the same brick as my home. The plants that I chose for the front garden include a red dwarf maple, silver coral bells (purple and green leaves, pink flowers, and blue pacific juniper, pulling in some blue greens, deep reds and purple tones....See Moreathensmomof3
