ISO 30x60 cast iron tub for alcove
Comments (17)Jas-space, I really don't know! Fyi, I don't particularly love the Sunrise tub and wish we had gone with the Porcher (I had sinks on my mind when I wrote "Porcher Sink" for the link above!) as it would have been better quality. As I said above, we just went with the tub that could reach us sooner so as to avoid delays. Actually, on the subject of wishes, I wish we had just built a walk-in shower and ditched the tub altogether!! Back to the thread, I think both tubs would work in the tight space mentioned... Comments (43)I actually feel kind of stupid or perhaps I should be kinder to myself and say I am very surprised! When working on the spare bathroom choices I gave some thought to using all of the available space, knowing I could fairly easily fit in a 66 inch tub if I were willing to do some framing work. I went back to Mirabelle as I wanted to keep costs as minimal as possible (noot cheap just not wanting a Kohler Underscore price unless I were willing to drop the Kallista in Master. I wasn't :) I looked at the 66 inch Mirabelle Edenton and did not at first catch the width. Only 36 and that won't fit in the spare. Without making a short story long I looked at the alcove versions but the Edenton required access from the side, something that for my home would be very messy. The Bradenton series offered a removable skirt but I had seen one before and wasn't sure I liked the look. But the Bradenton had decent leg room. So my duh huh moment. I looked at the 32 inch wide Edenton drop in tun and lo and behold it was 44 1/2 inches. I revisited the 36 inch wide Edenton drop in and sure enough its legroom was 37 or so inches. This was main reason I had dropped this from my short list. Had no idea the 36 inch wide version would be that much shorter. Now I see why Kevin had no trouble fitting in his tub! It has nearly as much legroom as the Kallista ( 1 1/2 inches less). The 32 inch will fit with a small deck in the alcove spot for my spare and I probably will do the air option. The spare has rapidly become an upscale room anyway and having a nice relaxing air tub there won't be worst thing. My son will love it when he visits and he won't invade the Master. Moral of story.. if any given dimension is important to you be sure to check every tub and size as internal measurements can be grossly different that external measurements. I thought I had already learned that but alas i quickly forgot it if I did. This may be a win win for us though as the wiring for spare will be simpler....See MoreCan anyone recommend a simple, affordable 60" alcove bathtub?
Comments (13)This is a longer version of a comment I just posted in a post about a finished bathroom. I'm back and forth between the Mendota and the Bellwether. I wish, Iwish, I wish, there was someplace that carried both and I could just see and measure for myself. According to the Kohler-provided specs: The 60 x 32 Bellwether is 15 1/2 inches high, and the water depth is 11 5/16. The 60 x 32 Mendota is slightly taller - 16 1/4 inches, but the water is 10 7/8. The Bellwether water comes about a half inch deeper, which really isn't significant to me, but the Mendota is slightly higher, which I do care about. I'd rather have a lower step-over if I'm not giving up water depth, so the Bellwether seems to be the right choice. On the other hand, I'd prefer the Mendota because the Bellwether has that sloped front end which shortens the basin, so you get an extra 2 inches in the Mendota. Am I way over-thinking this? I've been known to do that. I'm frozen with indecision....See MoreBathroom remodel help - to tub or not to tub?
Comments (12)Smaller windows above the water line, and a big shower. I have a 4 1/2 x 10 shower and I thought it was ridiculous (and to some it is) but I really like having my own area. .We have shower heads on each end with a rain head in the middle. If anything were to happen, it easily would accomodate a shower chair or an extra person if need be. We are in Florida so temperature and being chilly isnt a concern. I wouldnt dissuade you from building a big shower. You have to weigh whats important to you. I had the same size shower as you have in my last home, the larger shower is a game changer....See MoreJulieAP
