Electrolux Ice Maker Issue...has this been solved?
Comments (2)Hantiki, Sorry I can't comment on the E-Lux icemaker issue, but hope you don't mind if I give you my $.02 on another thing you mentioned. I'm currently in the beginning stages of my kitchen reno. I've purcahsed and received all of the appliances. I too was thinking about going with all one brand, partly because I thought it would look good all being from the same manufacturer (stainless color, etc.) but also because I thought I would get the bast price this way. I think there are some manufacturers (e.g. Bosch) that will offer certain rebates if you buy a number of a certain level of their appliances, but I think that with some smart shopping and/or negotiation, you can do as good or better with a mixed bag. Many here will tell you that you might sacrifice performance in some appliances by going with a single manufacturer. I started out with the idea of going all Electrolux/E-lux Icon. As I got into the process further, I found that there were features and ratings of other manufacturers that I liked better. As it turns out, I ended up with no E-Lux appliances and not one appliance from the same manufacturer. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying anything bad about E-Lux, just poiting out the evolution of my appliance selection process. Just something to keep in mind. There may be some incentives to the store/sales guy to sell an entire suite of E-Lux (or any single brand, for that matter) to you - not sure. My advice would be to shop features/ratings first, then brand. Once you establish exactly which model appliances you want (of any brand) then start talking price including discounts, incentives, rebates, etc. with that dealer as well as other sources for the appliances. If you're like me, there is a strong desire to deal locally. In my case, the best prices locally couldn't compare with alternative sources so I ended up going that way. But if you want to stay local, make sure they're giving you the best deal they can. Good luck, Dean...See MoreBest french door frig with ice maker/water
Comments (9)Someone mentioned the consideration of an icemaker being noisy. Yes, you can hear ice drop into the ice bin in the freezer if you are nearby, though it's not that often when the bin is already full. But really, would anyone consider going back to filling ice trays and not have an icemaker? I can't imagine it. Trays are a total PITA and you rarely have enough ice when you need it. We have never had a problem with ice/water in the door and had that for years in a sxs in a previous home. Presently we only have water in the door because that was how the French Door model we liked was made when we purchased it several years ago. Getting ice out of the bin in the bottom freezer is no problem, but we would have gladly bought it with ice in the door and actually would have preferred to have it again. If you take your glass off the lever that works the water in the door after the glass is full and just leave it under the spigot for a second for that last drop to go in the glass at least in my refrig there are no drips to wipe up. I love this board, but so many times I have seen one person post a problem with something and from then on so many posters will refer to the big "problem" with that appliance and always mention the poster who had the problem, as if everyone is having a major and continual problem with it. For every poster with a problem there are thousands and thousands of purchasers for whom that appliance works fine, but of course they have no reason to find a message board to say their appliance works great....See MoreKitchen Aid Mixer - Ice Cream Maker Attachment
Comments (3)I have it and it does work well IF the base is very very chilled before you place it in the frozen unit. Also you can't have a warm kitchen. So in Summer, when you usually want to make icecream, you need to find a place in your kitchen that is quite cool. The unit/bucket thaws out pretty quickly. You then take the icecream and place it in the freezer to cure. You can also eat it immediately as soft serve. I got mine free with my mixer as a bonus on Mother's Day during a sale a few years ago. I wouldn't have spent the $100 they were asking otherwise. If you really plan on making much icecream you need to get a real freezer. c...See MoreNew KitchenAid French Door - Freezing Liquids INSIDE Fridge
Comments (8)We have a new KitchenAid french door fridge with the ice maker/water dispenser. Although we have my ice maker hooked up we occasionally will find liquids have frozen. Generally these are items placed just below or next to the icemaker box. I think it happens more when the we've used a lot of ice. What may be happening is there isn't enough mass/material in the ice maker to keep it cold. (Some people recommend putting water bottles in deep freezers if they are not full, they say the compressor has to work less.) You may try putting some ice in the compartment and see if the problem goes away I also find some items in the back of the meat drawer tend to freeze too. Unfortunately I have not found a pattern to this....See Morefauguy
