15-year-old Girl Tree

This is the second year for this tree....not wild about the tree, nor the room....grrrr She's 15 and thinks she's smarter than her momma right now :) A room can be repainted a tree redecorated.....but there are just some things I WON'T budge on .... so I just give in on those things that are easily fixed! Plus, I always tell the kids that this is not a democracy, it's a communist nation and I am the supreme dictator (Dad even laughs and refers to me as the nazi....we are german and I am loud) What's funny though, is that I can't keep kids out of my house.....we always have 1-20 EVERY DAY that don't belong to us! I'm not a very good nazi.... :(

She makes us proud....top of her class, starter on a 5A basketball team as a Sophomore this year.....we can let the 15 year old style go.... :)

I think it's great! Seems to fit her room and probably her outgoing energetic personality as well. Good for you in picking your battles and giving in where it's really not a big deal. I can tell she has inherited your flair for decorating too. Luvs

That's got to be the brightest, loudest, most colorful tree I've EVER seen. LOL.
And I bet she just loves it. Sounds like you have quite a neat daughter too.

I have never grown guava from seed......However, from my notes given in the Sub Tropical Fruit class I took years ago, we were told that the time from seed planting until first fruit is 1-3 years. So, yours is on the more precocious side of the average. It is also far less seedy than the average (I know I am not telling you anything new with this). My notes indicate that the average quava has between 100 and 500 seeds. That's what I didn't like about the fruit. I was able to get an Indonesian White Seedless variety years ago from Hopkins Tropical Fruit Nursery. However, like all of the guavas that I once had, they eventually went into decline and died. Here in Florida, I don't think these trees have a long life....or maybe they just didn't like my yard with its periodic flooding and mucky soil.

Hi Petunia- I saw your posts where you said something like you are afraid you will never meet anyone. I would bet money with you that I am just as much of a home body as you, if not more. *wink* You will meet someone. When you are ready and when you are not looking or expecting it. Sweeby- I disagree with mentioning kids or marriage on the second date. I agree with you on what you are saying but for some reason it FREAKS guys out. Not only does it freak them out but it is in many magazines and articles about dating not to mention it that soon. Again, I agree it shouldnt be that big of a deal. I have to agree with the person who said the ex is not perfect since she wants kids. I also think he is not perfect because he is not treating you the way you should be treated -as the women in the relationship. Its bad parenting by the parent (not the kid) He allows this kind of stuff to go on. I dont care if he feels guilty or not. You are the adult and the women in the relationship. She is the child. I would not allow myself to be treated in any way other than that. When I am not they are placed on the curb. Yes, it stinks and yes it hurts. Once my head and heart are clear and I am on the outside looking in I clearly see things without my heart involved and I realize that I made the best decision. As far as meeting people on the internet. I have met guys on the net and out. It made no difference where I met them, what they did for a living, or where they lived they were who they were and it wouldnt have mattered where I met them. The same people you would meet out and about are the same people that are on the internet. I personally would use a match maker service that you had to pay for. A toothbrush and toothpaste for Christmas for a nine year old girl? What kind of holiday joy is that going to bring? Underwear when you don't even know her size? What kid wants cotton underpants for Chistmas? And if you buy the blingy kind it may be inappropriate. The link to gifts for a 9y/o girl was ridiculous. Boxers with words emblazoned on the butt. A book called "The Violent Years - Girl Gangs". A book on wine country. A book on how to knit a sweater. I suppose you could toss in a ball of yarn with it and and say "Merry Chirstmas!" A wall poster of an Islamic teenager standing in front of a beehive. As a Christmas gift?!? Tell me this was a joke. Kids that age like to be creative and like gifts where they can make things for themselves. A nail poish set with glitter and decals is good. Kits to make beaded necklaces and bracelets. Caligraphy and drawing sets. Things like that. Girly things like bubble bath and make-up for beginners. Hair oranaments might be good but you do not know if the girl has the type of hair that can use them. Something practical like a hoodie is nice and you don't have to be too specific with size. Nine year olds are too old for baby dolls and stuffed animals. Maybe a Bratz doll. Those still seem to be popular. It may sound impersonal but a gift card may be the best. How about a gift card for some fantasy shopping at Club Libby Lu or similar store. Girls that age love that store, and the girl can pick out whatever she wants. Or a gift certificate to a beauty salon for a hair and nails makeover. Get one from a beauty school and say it is for a child and it will be inexpensive. I'll be that none of the kids on this Secret Santa tree have ever been to a salon.

martinca, Hampton Court is well worth a visit, although, as you probably know much of it was re-built/added to by Christopher Wren a hundred and fifty odd years later. The original Tudor kitchens are still there and the wonderful red brick entrance gateway. Also beautiful laid out gardens down to the River Thames. My husband grew up about a mile from the place and always enjoyed time spent there. As an introduction to that period of English history I personally wouldn't bother with a novel but would get your granddaughter a copy of The Time Traveller's Guide to Elizabethan England by Ian Mortimer which will provide a good 'overview' of that period, not dates and battles but what people ate, wore, their homes, education, beliefs. It wont be dull and she can dip in and out of it and use it for further reference and maybe later trips/study. You might also enjoy it! If you are just interested in Henry VIII you could try The Children of Henry VIII by John Guy. Not a long or detailed read but gives you the salient points/characters of that time. As far as I know there is no sexual content within either book

I think that's just what a 15-year-old girl tree ought to look like. I wish I'd had one like that when I was her age. I especially like the topper.

I love the colors on your daughter's tree. And if it makes her happy... I agree with Luvs on picking your battles.

In today's world anyone that has good teenagers can surely count their blessings.

Sounds like you have a wonderful daughter. Hats off to her.

In my day we would have described that tree as "out-a sight!" Not for me now, but it would have suited me just fine in my hippie days. Cool, man, cool!

There was a tree very similar to this at the Festival of Trees we went to & I thought of a teenage girl when I saw it, so you're "right on" with it!!! Too cute!

What a super cool tree for a 15year old!!!!!! While my kids were growing up they had their own trees and trust me - we ran the gamit on 'interesting' decorations. Each year was a new expression of their age. My favorite was the year my daughter took all her stuffed animals and put them all on her tree. Christmas is for enjoyment .....

I don't know - I'm in my 30's and I really like your daughter's tree. It's bright & bold, evidence of a "life out loud" that most of us lose as we mature.

Kudos to you for letting your daughter express herself her own way in her own space. Plenty of parents wouldn't. :-)

My own DD is 14 (& 3/4 she lets everyone know!) and I totally I agree that the wisest thing is to pick your battles! You're a great mom to let her have this tree. It really is the most colorful Christmas tree I've ever seen and I'll bet she's very proud of it.

I am in my 50's and I love that tree. Your DD has good taste. My 16 yr old is more conservative where as my 14 yr old would love to have a tree like that.

I agree with picking your battles with teens as some days there are many.

LOL! Just think about the FUN you're going to have one day when she brings her fiance home to meet the folks! I'm sure you'll have a whole box full of pictures and clippings to share. IMHO a big personality is better than no personality at all. Enjoy.

Hmmm.. I'm on a fast moving train at the end of my 40's and I kind of like her tree ... but then, I like Limp Bizkit and Korn too.. so maybe I'm not the best judge ! But,seriously.. if all you have to worry about with your daughter is her love of bright colors in her world.. you are blessed !

Susan, Maybe you should just come on over! LOL....we actually have fun with all the kids! We would rather sit around and have late sing-songs (that sounds nerdy) with the kids and their freinds.... We'll sit around with all of them, pull up their music (which we actually like) and proudly sing to the worst of our abilities! There are times I actually have to declare a "No other children in my house but MINE!" days....

Oh, have you heard the latest Foo Fighters CD??? Home made me cry! We also love Nickleback, Cross Canadian Ragweed....anything red-dirt, Elton John, the Doors, 80's underground music.... Southern bluesy soul....

Talk About Freedom Of Expression... It's ALL OVER THAT TREE...and I LOVE IT. I taught Art and that is 'Harmless' Free To Be!! Your daughter sounds like a wonderful kid. I agree w/picking & choosing battles...My DD gave me quite a few exercise in that course, but in the end, when you look back, most was not so important anyway. Your house full of kids, is just like mine was, and my DD was always greatful for that. Years later, she still sees old friends, who ask 'how's Mom & Dad'?? To me, that's a real compliment.
So, enjoy your DD and her trees, cause time whizzes by fast.

Wow, looks like she might have a future in decorating, but hopefully her taste will change with age. I think it's great and very imaginative.

Bourbon, I am on my way over... lol. I have heard the new Foo Fighter c.d... loved it. Coming from a die-hard,boot-scooting..country music loving gal..I never thought I'd ever know who the Foo Fighters were.. much less say that I like them...lol. I'm learned to listen to my kiddies when they tell me "mom..you've gotta listen to this.. you're gonna love it". Which is also why I'm getting a c.d. from my military kid for Christmas of a European goth-metal band called Nightwish ( which I asked for..lol ). So, tell your daughter her tree is beautiful and I hope she always dances to her own drummer !
