    * In Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type devmgmt.msc, and then click OK.

    # Double-click Keyboard, right-click the keyboard that you use, and then click Uninstall.

Note If your device is not listed, this means that the device was removed automatically when you disconnected the device. Continue to the next step.
    # Restart the computer.
    # Turn the power back on for the device, if you have to, and then plug the device into the computer. Your computer detects the device, and then reinstalls the drivers for the device.

    This is curious.

Did you try the original monitor to see if the cause is permanent or if it is dictated by the new one?

I doubt it, but did you have to install a driver for the new monitor?

    Just a wild guess.
If you are connecting a USB keyboard to a USB port on the monitor, you also need a cable from the monitor to a USB port on the computer. Dell supplies this cable with the monitor.

Sounds like a good wild guess.
