Lighthouse Keeper Nutcracker

I have a neat wood, Lighthouse Keeper Nutcracker. About 12" high. He was included as a 2 for 1

with another I bought a few months ago on sale. I think he's neat, but he needs a home where someone

will love him for being a Beachy Guy! LOL. So if anyone here would give him a good home, I'll be glad to send him away from the desert to some place more suitable.

( If several speak up, and its ok with y'all, I'll put names in a box and have my DH pull one out)

Lighthouses are special to me, partly because my Grandfather was an assistant light house keeper in the early 1900s. My Mother told stories of how she would climb the stairs to help her Father check the lights. Years' ago before it was moved, I climbed the Cape Hatteras lighthouse several times. Once at the top I always was more scared to venture outside on the landing than I was to climb all the stairs. Dorph, the picture you posted is lovely. I had to go to Photobucket to see what lighthouse it is. I'm glad it gave the name. Marda, thanks for the quote; it started a new train of mmories for me.

More work has been done on the playground lately. Lots more to go however. It is very touching to follow along on the progress when you realize that ALL the work is done by volunteers. That includes the back hoe & driver and used equipment! Only $1000 has been spent so far on nails, bolts and a small amount of lumber. Here are DD's comments: Here are last weekend's photos. I was so impressed with how delicate and gentle the back-hoe operator was with the machine. He could easily have bent the equipment without noticing - but instead could tap things down by just an inch at a time, and knew where to push on them to bend them the least... We started with the tire swing. Did you know how far it went underground? It's already in the ground about 5' when this photo was taken: And now it's almost in all the way! Shall we put the monkey bars here? Pushing them in: Is that pushed down enough? Is it solid? Here is the ladder to a terribly wrecked slide which will go up to the back of the ship - and DH playing around... Placing the tree-trunk Ship masts: Pushing down the masts (10-15' underground):(Notice the netting laid out on the ground. That will be for climbing on.) And here's the (mostly) whole playground. The train didn't fit in the picture, but the camera battery completely died so I couldn't get it! Yes, there's still a lot of work to do... grinding off the old paint and bad rust, painting, cutting wood, and building the ship... I think the ship building will actually go quickly once the frame is in because everyone is so excited about it! ............................................... Tonight we (bug & DH) bought a pirate ship flag, a Jolly Roger, with the skull & crossbones. The skull is wearing a red bandana and doesn't look too terribly frightening. ;) (I wish Chelone could be there and work on the sails....)

it wasn't hard to breathe at all.. the said the mine breathed for itself, thus clean air- no gases and no air had to be pumped in. i thought that was very interesting, despite being a half mile underground. i was hoping for bats, but didnt' see any. they are there though. thanks, ct. that was the exact effect i was trying to show. the ship was longer than the breakwater the lighthouses are on, if that is the correct term. the lighthouses weren't large but big enough. harry, the dapple percheron, is my fave. i couldnt quit petting him, or walk away. i kept going back. of course, i had to have a carriage ride.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!!! That was very nice. Yeah, I simply gotta get with the program. I've never posted pics before to any forum I'm on. We've been renovating a lake home we bought two years ago so I've been a member of the kitchen and bath forums on Gardenweb for awhile. That's how I found this group. I need to learn how to do pics (I'm the original computer idiot) cause it sure would have been helpful as we were going through our kitchen and bath renovations. Think I'll start by getting rid of my antique cell phone and buying one with a camera thing on it. HA! One of my favorite Fitz and Floyd items are my set of three fish canisters...sounds lovely, huh? We onced lived in Atlanta, GA many, many moons ago, and there was a place there that was kinda like an outlet as I recall. Anyway, I drooled over those fish canisters for the longest time. They were pricey. Finally I caved (probably had been drinking at the time) and bought them. I adore them to this day! I will take them on as my first "picture posting project." Don't hold your breath, though, computer idiots are a bit slow on the uptake. LOL! Thanks again for the welcome! pup

Well... Let me see... I did buy some bright yellow napkins and napkin holders at the SA store Monday!

I have lots of shells, a small table top tree, and a few beach type ornaments somewhere. I could steal.. I mean borrow a little sand from Eli's old sand box. Hmm.. Yep, I believe he might just be happy here.

Man, I needed him when I did the beach table a while back!!

Sure you don't want to do a 'Beachy' vignette? I could send you a few shells and ornaments. :o)

If you're sure you don't want to keep him, I will give him a good home.

DHs are good for drawing names and saying, "Whatever you want, Dear." !!!

I have a friend who has a cottage on a lake, who collects lighthouses, this would be a fabulous Christmas gift. She would die for it. Thanks and what a nice thing for you to do.

I don't want to keep his new owner waiting too long for him to come. So I'll have DH pull out a name tomorrow night. Since it may be only Betty and Gardener, I'll put your names each on about 10 pieces of paper and mix 'em up real well so he'll have something to move around and draw from. Wish I had a pair so you each could have one!

Betty, I remember your beach table. It was so neat. And you must know my DH well, LOL. He's always saying "whatever you want", or "whatever makes you happy, Dear". It pays to be such a good golf widow, LOL. I NEVER complain about him on the course 6 days a week! That makes him a happy man!

I'll check on here for the last time tomorrow evening, around 8 my time (Phoenix). Then have him draw a name, and post it tomorrow night.

I'm so sorry, Kathleen. I should have been more clear.
With me rarely able to go to bed before 3 or even 4am, I tend to confuse folks, and myself, saying "tomorrow". I need to remember that MIDNIGHT means a new day, and not the fool night schedule my body is on.
I feel very bad for you missing out because of my time lapse.
