hanging light in Bathroom??

My new master bath has 3 lights over the vanity. Because there is a vaulted ceiling there are no recessed lights and I am afraid it will be dark. My husband wants to do a hanging light between the whirlpool and the 10' vanity.

My married daughter says hanging a chandelier in the bathroom is a new thing. Any ideas? And pictures?

CHandeliers are all the rage in bathrooms now a days. You have to watch code (draw a box, 3' by 8' high from any source of water...you can't have open bulbs in that box) but with your vaulted ceiling, you're probably fine there. Actually you're fine if you aren't having any inspections too, but I just discovered that my lighting falls in that box (because some idiot might stand on the tub deck, with a tub full of water and change a lightbulb, slip and hold onto the socket with their finger in it, and then electricute themselves and others).

In my opinion any idiot that stupid deserves it heh heh but that's code, so I thought I'd share it since you mentioned the whirlpool :) Look at a couple of design magazines on bathrooms..you'll see chandeliers in almost all of them.

We don't have a vaulted ceiling, but I love the look of a hanging light and was able to accomplish that in our master bath.

Hi Folks, Spider plants can be tricky for some folks because of the watering I think. Long before I knew about faster draining mixes I grew a large spider plant over my kitchen table. As it became potbound I saw how its roots got quite thick & fleshy & I realize years later that's somehow why it liked a good drying out btwn waterings. Mine grew, bloomed & had lots of babies 'til it got too large & I was afraid it would crash on to the table. Was quite pretty w/ long strands of blooms. Anyway, sorry to digress w/ nostalgia for my old plant, but here's the tip, try adjusting your watering. Maybe water LESS frequently & see if the leaves perk up a bit if you let it go 3-4 days longer than you were watering. You can play around w/ varying that &/or or maybe make your mix faster draining. Either of those may help. I grow Pothos in clear glasses of water in my Bathroom, I don't even bother w/ mix, just for some easy greenery in there. While Hoyas are a great suggestion & some folks know me to be at Hoya Forum as well, they aren't exactly fast bloomers. I wouldn't want you to get your hopes up about fragrance any time too soon (indoors). I confess I DO have potted Hoyas in my frosted glass west window bathroom; they do well w/ the dappled light of frosted glass. The Hoya Kerrii grows like mad. One can always try a couple of different things: can be fun to play around & experiment.

My parents house is like that, but there’s a wall with a wide doorway into the area with the vanity, so it’s open but also easy to close off by just putting a curtain rail up. It’s also oriented to the room such that if you only use enough light at the vanity to wash your hands for a midnight potty run, it really isn’t enough to bother someone in the bed if you place the bed sensibly. Getting ready in the morning would be trickier if you needed to do makeup and so on so needed proper lighting, so that’s where a screen or a curtain would come in.

How to hang this on bathroom door?

Use one of the screw anchors specifically designed for hollow core doors or sheet rock walls. Generally these are mounted in a hole drilled where you want the object to be hung. Then the screws are driven into the anchor rather than the door itself. These anchors come in various sizes designed to hold different weights. As for pulling out the screws in the door hinges, unless this object weighs a few hundred pounds, you have nothing to worry about.

IMO bathroom lighting needs to be really good lighting first and the style after. I think the gold will affect the way the light looks and I think it won’t be good Pendant lighting in a bathroom really does not do a good job of lighting the space, the mirror or the counter. Take some pics of the bathroom post them here so we can see what you have. No matter what you choose it needs to be LED 4000K in both kitchens and bathrooms.

Joan, that is a beautiful bath, love that wall color. I was going to put a chandellier over the tub. I was going to make sure it was high enough so if anyone stands up in the tub will not touch the light. We don't have any codes in our city. I know it's crazy. We have some, but nothing strict about placement of light fixtures.

Hmmm, I hope we don't have any such codes either. Ours is wired but not installed. It is probably about 1 ft away from edge of tub and 7ft high.

I love the look of a hanging light in a bath. I think you should do it. And then inform all family members not to change light bulbs when the tub is full of water :-)

Your hanging light is beautiful. This is just what I would like. CODE sometimes gets in the way, but it is for safety. I will make sure no one changes light bulb while the tub is full of water standing on the edge!!!!

We don't have a vaulted ceiling, but managed to squeeze sparkles here into our tiny remodel. Missing a few baubles in these pics, but you get the idea.

It's hanging fixtures, track lights and paddle fans that are restricted from a zone 8 ft vertically and 3 ft horizontally from the rim of a tub or shower threshold and within that zone fixtures must be rated for damp locations and if a shower spray can hit them they must be rated for wet locations.
