Full size Miele's don't vent at all and I don't think Bosch diswashers do either.

I really like my LG, and I do not think it vents either. Look at the 6810 and 7810.

I have the F&P dish drawers and have never detected heat coming from these dishwashers. I had them for 6 years in my last house, with hardwood kitchen flooring, and the floors looked as good as the day they were laid 14 years ago. For the last 2 years, I've had the DDs in my current kitchen, also on hardwood floors, and the floors are perfect.

Plus, as dishwashers, they are wonderful.

Beth4, DishDrawers vent from the center/bottom of the drawers. With a 2-drawer unit, the upper drawer vents from between the two drawers, the lower drawer vents toward the floor. However, it's a gentle forced-air venting that dissipates quickly/easily.

Thanks dadoes --- I've never understood how these wonderful machines work. I just know they work perfectly, every time. And, that the counter top above the dish drawers never feels warm, and the floor never changes temp. Believe me, if it did I'd feel it in my bare feet and the cats' infra-red heat seekers would discover it and they'd park themselves in front of the DDs while they were operating.

I marvel at all you know about the F&P machines....and hope I'll never have to contact you to ask for assistance. :)

Thank you all for your quick response! I just got back from the appliance store. While I was there I found myself drooling over the french-door refrigerators and chunky ranges.

Patches and Jerrod - I was sure I would be sold on KA but I liked the Bosch and the LG. I especially like that there is no heating element in the Bosch (plastics, etc.) but I worry about the glasses being wet when I open it. Guess I'll need to look for the threads about that.

Beth4, the drawers are soooo cool but over the budget, I think. I'm thinking that the benefits of a new mid-range d/w will make me just as happy (and knowing that will leave more $$$ for that yummy FD I saw today!)

You can get the LG without the heating element also - which is nice because then your plastics can go on the bottom. They use a different type of drying system than conventional dishwashers. For me, I chose the LG over Bosch for 1. hardfood disposer/grinder, 2. Larger capacity.

Most people find that if they use the rinse agent (jet dry) the dishes dry fine. My plastics tend to be a bit wet, but they were that way in the Maytag as well.

patches...after thinking about it for a couple of hours I'm worried about the lack of a food grinder on the Bosch. And I was at a friend's home who is mystery-testing a dishwasher...we think it's a KA. She loves it - especially the potscrubber feature. She said she can just tilt a baked-on-messy dish a certain angle, press the button and it cleans it right up. Does your model LG have that feature?

I can't speak for Bosch because I don't have one but I would still investigate the Bosch especially since they have just released their new 2007 models. You will see them on their web site, but perhaps not in the store yet. I bet it can clean pans without you tilting them on any angle.

I have a Miele without a food grinder and have had them going on 11 years without a grinder. This lack of grinder is not really a big deal unless you are going to use your dishwasher like a garbage disposer and even the models with a grinder tell you to scrape the dishes before putting them in the DW.

Also I think there is an LG Model that has a soak feature which seems good for pans but I don't know the price range.

Also appliance store people really don't know that much sometimes so it is best to do your own investigation...order some brochures from the makers. Another thing to do is go to the bosch and LG and any other makers web site and download the owners manual...you can get a lot of information about what you are going to run into by reading the owners manual before you purchase the product.

jerrod...I tend to agree with you although the gentleman I dealt with says he has owned a Bosch for a couple of years now. He seemed pretty knowledgable about it from a user standpoint. Good advice re: owner's manual.

We don't use our d/w as a disposal - in fact we rarely use our disposal and scrape everything. And I really, really like the molded tub. Still, I've skimmed over the threads about an odor with the Bosch and I'm concerned that I'll have to clean out that trap a lot - my intention with buying any new appliance is that it should make my life easier!! LOL.

I have a couple of friends who've just installed a Bosch - going on a few months now so I'll check with them. They have more kids than we do so their experience with the space inside is of interest to me as well.

DH wants me to get on with it already. But all these choices - a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, eh?

Well you know in the end it IS only a dishwasher, so I like to make sure I make appliance shopping an exploratory fun activity--as much as it can be.

We purchased a Samsung and love it, BUT. We have noticed that our hardwood floors are starting to buckle. It has started from under the dishwasher and is now spreading. We just spent $400 for a leak company to come out and look, but there is no leak. He said that it could be from the heating elements under the dishwasher. (or just the heat from the water going to the dishwasher) Either way, no leak. This is a new dishwasher, over $700 and now we have to throw it away to buy another $700-$900 dishwasher? Before we do this, does anyone have any ideas? This is going back to the first questions on this thread. Any help would be great - otherwise, we are going to throw away (or donate) this brand new dishwasher, maybe for nothing.
