Is TDSSKiller ok to use?

I keep getting a message from Avast that says it has blocked [something, it varies] [mal] and \\\globalroot\systemroot\svchast.exe.

Some sites say TDSSKiller will fix it. Is TDSSKiller ok to use?

I have Avast and occasionally it reports that it has blocked a certain site. That means that it is preventing you from going to that site because it might damage your computer...it doesn't mean that malware has been installed. Are you getting this Avast message randomly or only when you try to visit a specific site or sites?

TDSSKiller is a fix for a specific rootkit. What makes you think this relates to what you are describing? My view is that you should never run such software unless you are sure it's needed. While TDSSKiller is provided by a reliable anti-virus company -- Kaspersky -- it has been known to mess up some users' computers.

I would only advise using it with the guidance of the support forums that specialize in malware removal, like LzD.

Thanks for the replies! I guess I'll just use water and see how it goes. After years of trying to keep water off of wood furniture, it's hard to get used to using it on wood finishes of today. Mogator, I have a question for you. My saloom table came with two small checks in it. They are small and don't bother me--they might only be in the finish. HOwever, when I checked Saloom's web site for care instrucitons, I noticed that their warranty doesn't cover checks. Should I be concerned about the little checks? Thanks.

Thank you all for the many thoughtful responses. linda, we are somewhat familiar with the process, in that this is the 3rd house we've sold; however we've always had R.E. agents before. I do have a friend who is retired from RE who is offering some guidance so we're not completely blind. She basically said to check our original contract of the house against one that we use to make sure they are the same and gave me a number for a title search co to use. The title company then does a lot of the legal work involved. Also the buyers are actually friends of ours who are currently living in the house--long story but they needed a place to move to quickly with a newborn and our house was just sitting there empty. It was the right thing to do and it's been a win-win situation thus far, now that they've lived there they like the house & don't want to move again. So I'm not foreseeing any difficulties, but wanted to be sure. But I do understand that it's better to be "safe than sorry".

If I use satin on my trim will it be ok to use eggshell on the walls?

I always thought an eggshell finish was lower-luster, with a more subtle shine (sheen) than satin. So it shouldn't appear shinier than the satin trim. Because eggshell is less lustrous than satin, it is also slightly less durable, but will hold up better than flat or matte finishes would.

We had an outdoor BBQ area in Los Angeles that faced west and south and got full sun year round. We had granite and overall it performed well during the 8 years we had it installed. The only issue we had was a built up edge that was not attached with the correct glue and came apart in the heat/sun. Luckily we caught it before it cracked onto the floor and had another fabricator fix it. We built last year and I did use Taj Mahal quartzite outside. It is on the counter around the BBQ, in a covered lanai that gets no direct sun. We also have a large vent hood over the BBQ. I have noticed some yellowing on the quartzite behind the grill, but haven't investigated yet if it is resin that is yellowing from the heat or just dirt/grease/smoke on the quartzite. Taj Mahal is already cream/beige/gold/brown, so the yellowing, or dirt, doesn't really stand out, so I'm not worried about it. I certainly would not have used a "white" quartzite or a dolomite ... you know that is marble, right?

Question in OP is moot. Everything quit. We did a restore.

This was the computer on which we watched TV. Hulu, network archived stuff, CSPAN etc. We were seeing the message from Avast at the beginning of each and every commercial or the pauses where a commercial would have been expect with live TV. No more after the restore. Nothing was lost.

Ok. So perhaps you got lucky and Avast blocked it.
