Can range hood + duct vent air out at point lower than stove?

We just bought our first stove for our first house and we plan to install it against an exterior wall in our kitchen and are trying to figure out what kind of vent to get and where it should exit our house.

We have got a couple of constraints -

If we go directly out of the house behind the stove, or up and out we would be through the only decorative panel which is in the middle of front of the house (which we would rather not do).

If we could have the duct work take the air down closer to floor height behind the stove and then out we could avoid the panel and the vent would be less noticeable. Is it possible to send hot air, etc down? It would have two 90 degree angles - one coming out behind the stove and down and one out of the house - we are not sure where along the ductwork we would put a remote blower and what kind of draw it would need to pull from the range.

We have also heard that going straight out the back could allow cold air back in the house as it is such a short distance + metal piping. Is this true?

Our stove is a 36" Bertazzoni (just bought it off of craigslist!). We don't want an overpowered fan - we are on a tight budget at this point in the renovation and have lived for so long without a hood that we want to figure out what is a reasonable minimum with whatever configuration works best and go with that.

Any advice on how to configure the duct? Where to put a remote blower? MORE IMPORTANTLY, do we need a remote blower or can we use a regular hood and send air down? How much additional CFM would we need for that?

Any wisdom (or commiseration) you can share is most appreciated!

Thanks!
