a few keys not working on laptop

Hi,

I'm beginning to lose keys. First it was the 'dash'

Then is was the 'five'

Now it's the 'six'

I have a Dell Inspiron9100 3 years old.

I've cleaned the keyboard w/ canned air.

Now I'm lost ... what comes next?

Is this an excuse for a new 'puter?

My dad had issues with his compaq, we sent it in to Best Buy to be fixed. One thing that did fix it was reinstalling windows, but at some point that stopped working. As long as you have a USB or ps2 connector on it, you can plug a regular keyboard into it until you find something else.

Have you done the obvious simple things like turn it upside down and shake it vigoursly?

Did you go into display settings and set it up to show a separate monitor and not the built-in monitor? There is such a setting available, I believe. I am on my desktop, so I can't replicate that setting here, but it is available on your laptop display settings in control panel.

Use your vacuum that you use in the house- it will have a brush attachment and you should be able to adjust the suction to a minimal amount. Also, a clean/new paintbruch will loosen whatever is between the keys- just brush between while holding the computer upside down so the gunk falls out. Don't forget to alcohol wipe (or disinfectant wipes)-the keys- they are extremly germ laden- think of the kids fingers going up their nose- then playing with the computer.... or the family member who goes to the bathroom, doesn't wash hands and goes to the computer.....gross! The nurse part of me gets grossed out by the thought!!

Mouse not working on Toshiba laptop

Well, it is not the toggling fn+f5, it has nothing to do with a wireless mouse. I have run my AV, checked to see if there was a conflict with any other program, there is not. Wen I start up regularly my mouse will not work, I can move the mouse around on the screen, but as far as clicking on anything, I can't. My laptop is a Toshiba L655D, I have not downloaded anything new prior to the mouse not working. I did d/l a driver for the touchpad from Toshiba's support site. The keyboard mouse/touchpad only works in SAFE MODE. And, I had a wireless mouse, I had changed the battery, checked for drivers, etc. In an act of frustration I threw the wireless mouse against the wall, that was the end of the wireless mouse. Thanks for all your thoughts. I've knocked most of the big chunks out of the keyboard. I'm scared to get into the innards. So think I'll live with an extra keyboard for awhile until I decide whether it's worth the expense of a new one (I'm liking the looks of the big 17" screens on a couple of the laptops I've seen).
