Can I post a photo from Facebook here?

When I want to put a photo in a thread, I usually upload it to Photobucket and then use the html code that Photobucket puts under the photo.

But I have lots of photos on my Facebook page that I'd like to post in these forums. Is there a way to do that directly from Facebook (instead of uploading the photos to Photobucket)? I've looked at the source code for my Facebook page, but it's too hard to find the piece of code for just the photo.

can you right click on the picture and find the properties for just the picture?

I did that for the Facebook silhouette below - and use the HTML tag for posting images....

do they allow hotlinking? because doing it that way is hotlinking and most sites do not like that, bad netiquette, it uses up their bandwidth. Which is why sites like photbucket and imageshack are good options.

often times when it is found that someone has hotlinked to an image the site will replace that image with one that calls you out on it, some have messages stating you are stealing bandwidth or worse.

blueangel -- what photo hosting site are you using? Picasa, Photobucket, other? You'll need to look for "embed" the code, instead of "link" the code. If you're using Picasa, I wrote up some instructions for that and put them here a month or so ago. A search should find it for you. Just checked and Chrome is up to date on my phone - wish that had been the issue. There was a time before one of the many Houzz updates when I could post from my phone with no issue. I don't remember exactly when that changed because I' don't regularly posted from my phone. If I manually type in gardenweb.com in Chrome on my phone it brings me to a combined page of posts from many forums with a note at the top GardenWeb has been updated for info in the new look and features please visit the FAQ. I tried typing a test response on one of those posts and was able do that without the words being erased - didn't try to post it since it was just a nonsense test. But when I follow my bookmarks which are all gardenweb.com addresses, they change to houzz addresses as the page loads! If there is a setting to undo that I'd love to know.

OH! I never thought about the hotlinking issue. Guess I was thinking about the fact that it was her pictures...but it would be hotlinking.

You can upload from Facebook right to Photobucket - they have a spot that allows you to upload from a URL. That is pretty simple to do - and you would have the code to copy to easily post it here.

Thanks for mentioning the hotlink issue RC!

One way to check for sure whether Facebook allows hotlinking is to use gardenweb's test forum at the link below. HTH.

Terry - it is possible to hotlink from Facebook - the silhouette I linked above is directly from Facebook.

What is in question is if hotlinking from Facebook is ethical - or if it is bandwidth theft.

I can't really find anything in the Facebook TOS that states they do not allow hotlinking - but I can't find anything that says they do either.

To be safe - it would be best to use a photo hosting website.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I hadn't thought about the hotlinking/stealing bandwidth issue. I sure don't want to do that!

I didn't know you could upload from a URL to Photobucket. That might be a little easier than finding the photos on my hard drive again. I'll have to give it a try. Thanks, iowagirl!

when you go to photobucket right at the top you can select where you want to get the picture from it says as one selection the web choose that option and then just paste it's url into the blank and it will do it's thing. You can do several at a time too, and also right there at the bottom of that box it allows you to pick a size for your picture, say you want to use it for an avatar choose tiny, or to post on a forum so it does not take up as much space you could choose a smaller size.

I just made it a habit many years ago not to hotlink, I have my own websites and see it happening and it really just is not a nice thing and you never know when the person will replace that picture with something um not so pretty LOL. Plus now with all the hosting sites it is not necessary.

by the way I also use imageshack and it too lets you choose if you want to upload from your pc or the web.
