Miele Oven - ThermoClean System or PerfectClean Interior
Comments (4)I don't own either, but Miele was my top choice/dream oven for many months of planning. I did a lot of reading here about the 2 choices. After reading here, I think it depends on your cleaning style, how much you'll want to use the rotisserie, etc. If you don't mind cleaning after every use where there might be splatters or spills, a bit of soaking off tougher cooked on spills, etc. people seem to get along fine with PerfectClean. I thought we'd need self-clean, as our oven gets used a LOT, including by our kids, for fruit pies, spattery casseroles, high heat roasting, etc. The kids aren't necessarily the best at cleaning up after every spill, and I thought there might be an issue of catching the oven at the right moment, when it's still a little warm, but not too hot, which might be tough. An appliance salesman says he recommends PerfectClean and promises they can return the oven for the self-clean if they don't like it, and that he's never heard a complaint. The Miele chef I talked to said he'd definitely never have one without self-clean. I think it's personal preference, and, like I said, your self-discipline...whether you're more prone to constantly maintain, or more prone to do 'catch up' cleaning. Best wishes on your decision....See MoreMiele Oven - Perfect Clean Oven Racks
Comments (21)I have a Miele Masterchef H4881BP, which has Perfect Clean only on the racks and the roasting pan that slides into the racks. Nothing else has the perfect clean coating, per the manual, page 56. The rest of the oven can be wiped out regularly, but as I found from frequent roasting directly on the rack, that doesn't get it very clean. So, I use the Self Clean feature to cremate the cooked on mess after which it wipes out easy as pie! I do NOT leave my oven racks in while using the Self Clean function, although nothing in the manual says not to that I could find. The manual recommends cleaning the racks after roasting bc they can stain if food is cooked on repeatedly. I find them easy to clean using a non-stick cookware friendly scrubby, like a Dobie, and soap and hot water. The manual also says "if the oven is not cleaned regularly, debris may become extremely difficult to remove even with the Self Clean function." Bottom line, the Miele Perfect Clean ovens are the best of both worlds. Relatively easy cleaning roasting pan and racks AND self clean when you need to get the oven body really clean. Another cool feature, if you don't have time to self clean, or don't want to deal with the yucky smell from self cleaing, but you want to wipe the oven. The door comes off easily so it's easier to reach the inside of the oven! AND the rack glides unscrew without too much trouble as well!...See MoreMiele induction owners: are there cleaning issues?
Comments (9)I've had my unit for a little over a year and the crack between the glass and the metal is sealed with a rubber strip. Nothing should be able to get under there, and there is absolutely no place for a crumb or any crud to accumulate there or anywhere else on this cooktop. It is absolutely smooth and sealed. Cruddy edges were a major issue on my last range and it drove me nuts for 16 years, so I really looked that over closely when I was shopping! I use this cooktop heavily, multiple times a day. I've had crumbs, boilovers, splatters--etc. and the edges are just as easy to keep clean as the center is. If something got caught or stuck there on the cooktop you were looking at, then it was likely a problem with that particular unit. Cj...See MoreAdvice/comments about Miele Novotronic Self clean Oven
Comments (7)Ahhhh! The Miele-Novotronic. Now, this is a FANTASTIC oven. IMO it is simply the best oven known to man. It is a tragedy that Miele is no longer selling this in the USA - don't know if they're producing them either. I didn't own one - bypassed it in favour of another one because I didn't/don't think I'd ever be able to do justice to all its attributes and its one drawback was mitigated in the one I did get - however, I've cooked on it quite a lot as some of my family have these. As a performer, it is excellent. I've baked with it, various breads and a few cakes, some vegetables and fish. So no worries on that score. I've never found the relatively smaller size a handicap as I think a smaller cavity is an attribute (efficient, uniform, quicker to attain temperature etc.) and besides, I don't have the love or need for volume that the general American public savours - as Antss pointed out. So, I don't know how to score this for you, but I found this plenty spacious for our cooking needs. Antss mentioned the interface. IMO, the interface is one of the very best things about the oven - better than most any oven ever sold (except perhaps Kuppersbusch and old-Bosch a very close third). The interface is far, far better than the pointy-clicky nonsense Miele has put on their new ovens. So all in all, you can get this oven with the confidence that you're getting one of the best ones ever made. And if you're not getting it, please let me know where it is so I can acquire it. I thought they were all disappeared from the face of the earth in the past couple or so years. ;-) That said, I don't recall which Novotronic model I played with but frankly, they were such excellent performers and have so many good attributes that I wouldn't be bashful about any of 'em....See Moresshrivastava
