jenn-air oil bronze appliances

Has anyone seen the new jenn-air oil bronze appliances? They look gorgeous on the web but I was wondering how the finish looks in person. The nearest dealer to us is over 2hrs away! If you've seen it in person, how do you think it will look with cherry cabinets?

Worry more about the reputation of the actual appliances more than how pretty a color is....

I agree with fairegold, but yeah, I agree the color is gorgeous in the web pix I've seen.

Color is definitely the next trend, despite all the lovers of stainless.

They only made them briefly. They weren't even the same color when compared to each other. Plus, they were Jennair . Not at all a bonus in my book.

immediate appliance crisis - KA ovens

We went to 5 appliance retailers today. Our goal was to keep the fridge and replace the oven/speedcook combo. But, we were open to replacing all 3 if needed. Requirements: 1. The 3 pieces must look good together. 2. The fridge is FD counterdepth with interior water dispenser and icemaker. 3. The oven must fit a large pampered chef pizza stone which we carried with us to test. The stone is 15" round. Often we find that the rack angles in the back preventing the stone from fitting or the convection oven hatbox sticks out too much for the stone to fit. 4. Would really like the oven racks to be either on ball bearings or full extension racks. We did not reach a conclusion today. Here is what we learned: 1. We could not find a dealer in our area that actually had a Miele oven to look at in person. Several had DW but no ovens. We did find a kitchen design showroom that had an old Miele oven and the pizza stone did not fit. Unfortunately, we don't find that test reliable because of the age of the oven. 2. All of the dealers claimed they never heard of any problems with the KA ovens, particularly the self-cleaning issues that have been discussed in this forum. 3. We really liked the JennAir oiled bronze look appliance finish! Anybody have any comments on that? 4. We didn't consider GE because of the thread we read here but can no longer find that discussed the fact that the advantium stainless color was not the same as the wall oven color. We can't remember if it was monogram or profile or didn't matter. We did actually see this problem in an appliance showroom so it scared us off. a) can anyone point me to that thread again? b) has anyone seen this problem with recent GE advantium purchases or maybe it went away? 5. We were told that the glass can break during self-cleaning when the metal rack is touching the glass. 6. Electrolux doesn't seem to make a convection microwave. Am I missing something? So we still don't know what to do. Does anyone have any feedback for us for 1) GE Advantium stainless color discoloration (Yellow tint) experience or old thread 2) Will my pizza stone fit in Miele oven? 3) Jennair - any comments? oil-bronzed finish - ?? I thought oiled bronze was on the way out on faucets and light fixtures?? I'd also predict that stainless steel appliances are due for an exit to join black, avocado and harvest gold in the graveyard. My crystal ball guess would be multiple choices for colors. For example, Bluestar offers 190 different colors in three different textures and seven metallic textures. That would be for the high end, of course. On the low end, who knows? They tried to keep it cheap (for them) by taking a new color and giving it an upscale name (e.g. grey becomes 'slate') but that hasn't taken off. Because of warehousing, shipping, availability, etc., only a few colors could be offered and placing a bet on a small set of colors is risky but could have a big payoff if it takes off. The designer I'm working with really wants me to get a counter depth fridge. The one I have now is standard depth, it is beside a built in desk and doesn't stick out that much. I don't think the depth is a big issue. The major issue my current fridge is white. In my kitchen with golden faux finished walls, cherry cabinets and soapstone countertops, it sticks out. It is like the last hang over from my previous kitchen. To answer your original question, I am going to keep my old refrigerator in the pantry where I have a freezer now and move the freezer to the basement. But I haven't ruled out getting a bigger refrigerator but I would have to give up the cool oiled bronze finnish to do that. I would go either with black or a satin stainless steel that didn't smudge then.

Right now, Whirlpool doesn't know exactly what they're going to do with Amana/Maytag/Magic Chef, but especially Jennair. They're keeping the production of the French Door type refrigerators, but most of the other side by sides have already been phased out into rebadged Whirlpools, with all of their design flaws that they want to turn into "features". Even when Jennair/Maytag was the sole force behind their appliances, they had a rotten (deservedly so) reputation for quality control, customer service, and design flaws. That's a major part of why Whirlpool was able to be the succesful bidder in the takeover.

Jennair appliance development, especially including their ORB series has been on hold for about a year now due to the changeover, and with ORB fading from the design market, I don't look for a strong enough demand for it to really have Whirlpool keep it as a viable option.

I agree, they are beautiful, but I wonder if the bronze of today is tomorrow's avocado?

Sorry, but as nice as the ORB appliances may look they just remind me of the 1970's copper appliances my mother just replaced.

As others have suggested, go with quality over looks. I was told this when I was interested in the Electrolux sxs only to hear horror stories about the quality of the appliance.

Thanks for the feedback. I am also looking at the Dacor 30" wall oven and KA Architect II. Would those be better choices than Jenn-Air?

Quality and reliability issues aside, I don't think the ORB Jenn-Air would look good with cherry cabs at all. Essentially you are just working with two different shades of brown and they would look "off" next to each other.

Cherry looks great with stainless or black.

I am buying the Jenn-air FD/SS with the pro handles. My cabinets are 1 shade darker then natural cherry. We are also using a red oak flooring. I love the SS with the cherry.

We just uncrated our floor display model of the fridge

HORRIBLE!

If you get within 3 feet it looks like a cheap wood-grain veneer has been pasted onto the original door. And while others may disagree I think they could have gone to a gold handle set instead of using the same stainless handles.

As for where Jenn-Air as a brand stands under the Whirlpool umbrella .. the future is very bright. The KitchenAid brand will benefit from the aquisition. ORB? Not so much. Color it gone. A project inherited from Maytag and no one in Benton Harbor has stepped up yet and pulled the plug. Definately see it in person before you purchase (the words "paint brush" come to mind). Better yet, buy stainless steel appliances and find a local skilled faux-finish artist to paint your appliances.

I saw the Jenn Aire oil bronze suite today in Jacksonville, Fl, and have to agree with super duper. It is the cheapest ugliesst look I have ever seen. They look nothing like the web pics or oil bronze bathroom fixtures. STAY AWAY.

Sanborn5 - Have you gotten your Jenn Air refrigertor yet? Do you dislike anything about it? We are planning on getting the French Door SS with pro handles. Just wondering if you've gotten yours and love it or dislike anything about it.

I bought the JennAir CD SS FD with the pro handles a month ago. I am thrilled which is nothing compared to my husband who absolutely loves it. Icemaker is great, plenty of room, veggies stay fresh for much longer than the GE it replaced,and it looks terrific. No problems whatsoever(so far).

I am heartened to hear this, jpreisman. I love the exterior of the Jenn-Air CD SS FD but since it is made on the (blech) Maytag side of the "house" at Whirlpool, I am a bit skittish. All those fridges look identical inside and what I'm concerned about is customer service: does Jenn-Air have better customer service than Maytag or Ka or is it the same horrible story?
