zephyr range hood AK2536
Comments (8)I have the 30" version of this range hood. My first hood was a cheapo Kenmore that worked great but sounded literally like a 747 was about to land in my kitchen. Its 2003 replacement, a Broan Allure III, was the worst piece of c**p I've ever had. Thin films of grease were constantly deposited on the countertop to the left of the range (the Allure has two mesh filters, but only one fan - to the left, of course). The top of the hood also was constantly dirty, a sign the hood was letting steam and grease escape over the top. We put the Zephyr in about three months ago. It's a bit quieter than the Broan at highest speed, and much more efficient. No longer any greasy film on counter or hood top. Easy to clean, although I think they could have figured out a way to make the wire finger screens snap-in, instead of having to keep a small screwdriver in my kitchen drawer. We're very pleased with it. I needed a decent fan that vented directly out the back and had a fairly high front, so the Zephyr filled the bill....See MoreZephyr AK2100 range hood review
Comments (6)From what I understand from previous discussions on this forum, venting vertically with as few bends as possible maximizes cfms and (slightly?) minimizes noise. We didn't have this option, unfortunately. This is our first house and therefore first time I had ever used a range hood at all, LOL, so all three range hoods used the same set-up. I can compare the different brands I've had, but not a different setup. I can only say that the three people I know with range hoods that vent vertically out the roof seem quieter than mine (none are remote blowers, which are the quietest), but they are also different brands so I can't make a straight comparison....See MoreAnyone have the Zephyr Savona wall range hood?
Comments (12)Hi Melanie - Update: I received a push button assembly and a capacitor parts from Zephyr. We consulted our electrician (who happened to be on site doing unrelated work), he told us that our existing push button assembly is working fine so that part was not needed. He did install the new capacitor and said that by the sound the unit was making he could tell that electricity is feeding the unit adequately so that's not the issue either. He carefully lifted one of the two grids on the side of the blower and noticed that the blower wheel (sorry for not knowing the proper technical terms) was stuck in place, kind of gummed up, which is probably due to some grease accumulation over the years. He manually prodded the wheel to make it spin freely. He did this to both sides of the blower and the unit started working again. However, we still have the unpleasant screeching noises but have regained use of the hood. We decided to use it sparingly as long as it extracts odors, steam etc until we can replace it (or find someone who restores these types of motors.....not sure how cost effective that route would be though....). Thank you for your question and I hope you find a satisfactory solution!...See MoreISO feedback on Zephyr range hoods, please (x-post)
Comments (16)The duct cover for the Zephyr is 10.5" wide by 10.5" deep. Cat_mom's does look a bit beefier. I was thinking about doing the white oval glass tiles just under the cabinets and to the bottom of the hood, then having a light to medium blue paint behind the hood and above the cabinets. I probably shouldn't rush the hood decision with several months to go before project completion. I just hate to pass up a deal, LOL. As of yesterday, I have purchased the fridge column, range, steam oven and undercounter wine fridge, which will soon be sitting in our garage. We don't even have bids from contractors yet (other than custom cabinets), but we have to do the kitchen now. DH likes that I have at least made some decisions and we are more locked into my last design now that appliances of a certain size have been ordered. I have fallen in love with slabs of white quartzite with blue veining, although I will not purchase those until we have a GC and counter sub hired so I can get pricing and they can verify my counters will fit on the 2 slabs. I have been trying to schedule a meeting with the architect for the last few weeks so we can get revised drawings and move onto the bid phase. He seems to have lost some interest in the project since I didn't immediately accept his proposed layout of how our house should look....See Moredeeageaux
