I think you should get the faucet you like. I have a 4-inch spread in one of my bathrooms, and have never even thought about it being "outdated". If you're worried about resale, I doubt that potential homebuyers will be concerned. Plus, if your vanity is on the small side, a 4-inch spread seems to make more sense to me.

I don't think that yours is "outdated" but most nicer/high end homes will have the 8" spread and most people agree that they look nicer.

That faucet is beautiful and I think you should use it!

Our old master bath, which is now a kid's bath, has this 4-inch plate. I don't like the way the wide spread faucets allow water deposits to build up around each handle. We don't seem to have that problem with our plate style.

We like to look at model homes practically every weekend. Some are basic tract homes, others are more high-end semi-custom. In none of the homes do we ever notice the faucets unless they are really exotic. We do notice the finishes but not the actual styles.

Don't get me wrong - it's a very nice neighborhood! Just not something that I think would make a big difference.

last week I went to the plumbing store (a VERY nice store I might add) and was looking at 4 inch faucets. They told me also that those were quite outdated. So, being a smarty I asked if they are so outdated why even have them in the store!! His response was because people still do "vintage" bathrooms and need them. I thanked him and walked out. Of course I'd not purchase there anyways, way too expensive for me. Personally that's what I'm drawn to also so we'll probably replace our outdated fixtures with more outdated fixtures. After all I'm making the payment on the house not the plumbing store.!!!

If you ever sell, they'll probably redo everything anyway, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I just installed the same faucet in a bathroom in a rental unit. New subway tiles on the wall.mosaics on the floor. The apartment rented rather quickly plus i managed to get a good increase in the rent from the new tenant.

I think it looks fine and you know whether it suits the look of the room you have! I wouldn't worry too much about what others think unless it was an architect or interior designer that you trusted!

Thanks. I quite like the faucet. My contractor is a funny guy - kind of a renaissance man. I don't doubt what he says is true (about 8 inch spread being "in") - but it doesn't affect me - no one ever accused me of being "in"!!

The reason that 4" center faucets are still stocked is that older sinks have holes for 4" centers. If people are replacing the faucet but not the sink, they need to match the existing hole configuration.
8" centers are more fashionable, but I'm a single hole, single handle person myself. Only have one thing to think about when getting the water temperature right in the morning ;-)

I spent a couple of hours at Ferguson's today picking out all of my plumbing fixtures for my build so I definitely have faucets on my mind!

The style of your faucet is very similar to what I chose, so of course I think it's beautiful! And I truly think you should put what you like in your house.

That said...I saw lots and lots of 8 inch spreads today and that's what I went with for my master and powder. To be honest I only looked at those and then the single handle ones for my guest rooms.

Is that the victorian from Delta? I have the kitchen version and absolutely love it. In fact I remodeled my whole kitchen around the faucet. I was looking through the lowes website and they also have the same faucet in 8".
It shows in venetian bronze but I'm sure you can find the other finish.

*I just bought new faucets for one of my baths and bought 4" but I didn't change my countertops so I didn't have a choice.

I like it. I will tell you that my plumbing supply people say it is harder to clean b/c of the tightness between the different fixtures. So, that is a con of this type of faucet. In general, these are less expensive than the 8 inch spread, so, to me, that is a plus of these types of fixtures. And,I definitely don't think the 4 inch makes it look dated!
