Master Bath Layout - please help!

We have a proposed layout for the master bath ---- size 14' x 12' foot [with a 2' x 6' bumpout]. We have been through about 25 possibilities, and none are great, but we think this has possibilities.

- Do we have enough light? Are the windows in the right places?

- Where can we be creative and add some storage niches?

- Where should we put the radiator [if the underfloor heat is a no-go?

- Anything else that would improve the layout?

My current closet is only 3 feet wide, so my new HER CLOSET wil be a huge improvement! So excited!

JeannieMer - your bathroom is nearly the same size as mine and I love how you have managed to fit so much in - esp the
WC and closets! I wish I had thought of it! Too late for me but I vote that you go for it!

If the "his" closet is only 3 feet deep, It is not deep enough to have rods on both sides as currently drawn. You would have more hanging rod with just one rod across the back wall.

Hi Blondie, Do you need a toilet room or just a private area for the toilet? I think if you wanted a seperate toilet room it would need to be fairly large, but I don't know the standards for ADA. Same thing with your shower: do you want it curbless/doorless so that a wheelchair can roll in? Also, does your tub have to be centered on the outside wall? If you are open to it being off-center, it offers a bit more flexibility. I hope that my response gives your post a little bump so that others will respond. Sandy

Instead of having the closet open into the bedroom, have the door going into your closet from your bath. Gives you more wall space in your bedroom. Also allows for a change in furniture placement. You could consider using a pocket door going into the closet. Good Luck!

It is hard to tell the length of your vanity in the drawing. I would suggest making the vanity longer and having a built-in linen cabinet in place of the tub. Possibly have a spot for makeup area in the vanity. My bathroom currently has a 48 inch shower and a 6 foot tub. We are removing the tub and replacing it with bigger shower. In the place of the old shower we are making that space for a large linen closet storage. I have used our tub maybe 5 times in 3 years and DH hasn't used it at all! Something like these linen cabinets in place of your tub?

When you say false wall - you are talking about the "back wall" of the shower ( against the outside wall ) right? I think that will be fine . Are you doing a tile base? Then you can do anysize - preform ones are different. I would go 54 in width especially if you might keep a small bench in there.... do some great niches in the wall for soap and shampoo.... Free standing tubs are more dramatic looking HOWEVER they have to be positioned so you can get behind them to clean - that might be more difficult in your situation since you can't easily get behind the tub. If you want freestanding then do a clawfoot so you can run a swiffer underneath... Be sure to buy a tub that mentions "lumbar" support - that will be a more comfortable tub... I also look for arm rests....

Remove linen closet. Move entry left. Widen "his" closet. Move toilet under window. Shrink WC to 3 feet. Put linen closet outside toilet.

I assume the shower is all glass. It that flexible? If so, you can build a wall flush with your closet wall outside the shower and do built-in open shelving (black rectangle).

Also, the preferred lighting for sinks is sconces. Will you have enough room with the window there? Can the window be high and maybe run lenghtwise above the mirrors?

The sink run looks like it's 6 feet on the outside. That's only 5 feet on the inside. Is that correct?

Clothes that will be hanging near the window in her closet will be subject to fading.

Also, instead of opening the closet door into the closet, thus cutting off a lot of hanging space, why not have the door open into the hallway. In fact, if you have two doors and mount two mirrors on the inside of the door, you can position the mirrors such that you can see your backside.

Thanks for all the advice, you all are GREAT.

Linen is now outside of WC, accessible from the hallway.

I provided the INSIDE measurements, and here is the vanity wall in case you want to comment. Sconces between the window and the built in mirrors, but maybe high wide windows is a better use of space. 8' high ceilings and my husband is 6' tall, so maybe the mirrors on the side is the best for funtion?

HIS CLOSET is 3' wide on the inside, and he has twice the space that is currently available in our house now, yes, the long wall is most likely how we will hang the clothes/install the shelves.

The window in the closet is on the north side, so no direct light at all....no sure but can fading still occur with indirect light?
