Christmas movies

Our family (DH and I and teens) love to watch Christmas videos during holiday evenings. We have "A Christmas Story", "A Disney Christmas" cartoon, "The Santa Claus" (with Tim Allen), "Prancer", and "Little House on the Prairie Christmas". What are your suggestions for some titles we can add to our collection to enjoy over and over again?

Wow, GigGhee, that's a great list! Thank you for posting it! I love Christmas movies, and I can't resist buying a few new ones each year. Some of the TV Christmas episodes are really good too.. Lassie's Come Ho Ho Home is one we've watched every year, and the one from the Andy Griffith show, too.

My favorites are some of the Bing Crosby ones, White Christmas, Holiday Inn. These two always come on at the holidays even tho they aren't strictly for Christmas: The Bells of St Mary's, Going My Way. What about Chevy Chase in Christmas Vacation?
    A Charlie Brown Christmas
    The Grinch
    Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Rudolph and the Misfit Toys (new one)
    Frosty the Snowman
    Frosty Returns
    The Little Drummer Boy
Santa Claus is Coming to Town
    The Littlest Angel
The Homecoming (The original Waltons movie)

Can't wait to start watching myself! Thanks for getting me in the mood.

My absolute favorite is It's A Wonderful Life. We have already watched it once this season and I expect we will watch it a few more times. We prefer the black and white though. If you've never seen it, you must! Happy holidays!

My very favorite is White Christmas. We also like Jingle All the Way, Rudolph, Prancer, Christmas in Connecticut, Miracle on 34th St. and The Bishop's Wife. We watch at least one Christmas movie every night (or try to) between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I love It's Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street. A touching movie is House Without A Christmas Tree starring Jason Robards. I read that book to my homeroom my first year of teaching and cried so hard I had to get someone to cover my class!

I love the classics, but I have to admit, I can not wait to watch Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase. We bought a new copy of it last year (old one wore out) and my children love it. As much as they watched it, I never got bored of it. Still makes me laugh.

Our family favorite is 'A Christmas Story' . . . the one about Ralphie who only wanted a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas but his mom kept telling him he'd shoot his eye out. Hilarious!

Another favorite that hasn't been mentioned is called 'Small One'. It's the story of how Joseph and Mary came to have a donkey to ride to Bethlehem. Leaves me in tears every time.

Our favorite is "A Christmas Story" along with all of the traditional ones. "The Santa Claus" is a must have (I heard they were coming out with a sequel). Another one that is good that might surprise you is "Muppet's Christas Carol." Honestly, we think this is the best version of that story. It's got a little humor in it but it's a really neat version of an old classic and it has replaced our other versions of that movie.

Several years ago we watched a "Life with Louie Christmas" which was an episode of the short-lived cartoon "Life with Louie" (Louie Anderson). That episode was hilarious and reminded me far too much of how my own family dealt with the holidays when I was a kid. I'm dying to get a few copies to give out as gifts to family. Has anyone seen this episode for sale? If you get a chance to see it, it's really cute.

I really like "The Night They Saved Christmas " with Jacklyn Smith and Art Carney. As "baby Boomers" , we really get a kick out of "Christmas Vacation" with Chevy Chase. We watch it every Christmas and still crack -up every time !!!

Every year when I come home for Christmas week, my family and I always end up watching all or part of Christmas Vacation and A CHristmas Story. They're always on during the holidays and they're both so funny! We don't buy movies and why rent when they're shown for free on TV?

There was a made for television movie
called "The Gathering" with Ed Asner.
I loved this movie because it took me away
    to a loving, caring family.

I had a VHS recording of it that I watched
throughout the year when I would begin to
feel blue. Finally the tape broke and I've
    never found another copy.
If you ever come upon it as a rental, please
take it home and watch it - I doubt that you
    will be sorry!

Another precious movie is a very old one
starring Loretta Young called "Come to the Stable" and
all of us have been touched by "It's a Wonderful Life",
"White Christmas" and "Scrooge/A Christmas Carol".

Wishing you all the Happiest of Holidays,
    ~Jude~

Our favorites are all the classic kid's shows- Rudolph, Frosty, etc. and Miracle on 34th St, One Magic Christmas, and Miracle in the Wilderness- which is a very unusual telling of the Christmas Story.

Good Thread!! My favorite movie that I must watch every year, since I saw it on T.V. when I was really little, was "Santa Clause the Movie" It has Dudley Moore in it, as well as John Lithgow. My tape is getting pretty old, but I love that movie soooo much. Has anyone seen the Wookie Christmas Special? It's absolutely hysterical. My BIL is a Star Wars fan and just happened to get his hands on a copy of this. Harrison Ford doesn't even like to awknowledge this film, that's how "bad" it really is. Think about a half hour of wookies "talking". Hehe, Happy Holidays!!

"Santa Clause the Movie" It has Dudley Moore - has been on TV a couple of times this very week. One I like and am glad I taped it is "An American Christmas Carol" "Fonzie" plays a turn of the Century (last century) Scrooge
MaryF "The House Without A Christmas Tree," I taped that one too. I think Jason Robards Jr played the dad in that one.
