Last Saturday (1/19) I bought the Shark Steam Blaster Jr. - Red (S3210R) Spent half the day Saturday steaming! LOL (This is a hand-held model, very similar to the Rainbow Steamer and the Scunci) Overall it worked well. A few minor complaints. The squeegee attachment was useless, water everywhere when I used it on the bathroom mirror. Many of the complaints I read was the amount of time wasted in refilling/waiting for reheat. I found that you can work out a routine to work around the waiting. The steam lasts for about 15-20 minutes. Then I'd wait 5 min. to cool, let out the steam and refill. I didn't mind the wait. Bathroom: Overall cleaning the bathroom was a success. Kitchen- WOW! I was pleasantly surprised that it was strong enough to remove baked on grease on my stove that I've been trying to remove for months! It took a little elbow grease. A little trick I used was to drop very small drops of dish detergent directly on the stain then blast it with the steam! BINGO! Beautifully cleaned the microwave, oven door, granite counters, sink, and tile floor grout! Unfortunately I could not get baked on grease off the bottom of my pans and I also wanted a floor attachment. - SO... I ordered from Walmart the SteamFast SteamMax Heavy-Duty Steam Cleaner. LOL! I receive it today (1/25) and I already used it in my bathroom. BIG DIFFERENCE from the hand held. Much stronger, less water spray, faster work. Way longer use before refilling (in fact, I dumped water out of it after cleaning the entire bathroom). I'll be tackling the pans baked on grease tomorrow and will let you know. I'm going to return the Shark hand held. Also check out Sam's Club.com they carry the Monster SC60 Steam Cleaner It seems a little bit more powerful than the SteamFast.

paso, I'm posting a link to an earlier thread, in which davidro1 mentions them to me. I've since bought one, a White Wave, and I've used it on a couple of my tile floors. In the first case, the floor was limestone, the grout very dark and dirty. I used the steam cleaner on the grout and it did get much cleaner. It hadn't ever really had a good cleaning in 14 years. The grout was light to begin with, kind of a beige color, and I'd say it returned it to about 80% or more of it's original color. However, it was slow. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to do a very small area, about 4x4'. I had to go over each grout line many times, maybe 10 times. I used an attachment with a very small orifice, so it was kind of like using a toothpick or Q-tip to work on the grout. The second room took similarly long, even though that grout was much newer, maybe 3 years old. Its original color was white. It also didn't return to perfect. But in both cases, there was a big improvement. A friend of mine spent about the same length of time on her grout, but she used water, detergent and bleach instead of a steamer. If not using chemical cleaners is what you're after, a steamer is a good solution. If not, I'm not sure the steamer is going to be a better answer just for floors alone. It did a GREAT job cleaning the gasket on my old refrigerator, which was really dirty. That's a tough area to get clean. The only other place I used it so far was in my oven and it seemed like it wasn't doing that great of a job. But I didn't do it for very long because the heat cracked the oven's window! (The instructions warn you to be careful when doing this and I thought I was, but it cracked anyway.) There seem to be a lot of other uses for it, which I haven't yet tried. As far as KEEPING a floor clean from the start, rather than cleaning an old one, it may work much faster, I don't know.

I use homemade cleaners in the bathroom. Since they don't have preservatives, I make them in a small squirt bottle. I start with equal parts Dawn and white vinegar. (This has fumes in quantity, but isn't toxic the way chlorine is. ) You can microwave the vinegar first to get it hot, but I seldom bother. I spray inside the toilet bowl, then the shower. While that works, I add water to the small amount of soap remaining in the bottle and use it to clean the sink, vanity and outside of the toilet. Next, I scrub and rinse the shower, then the toilet bowl. I disinfect after cleaning by wiping down the contact points (toilet seat, toilet lever, faucets, light switches) with rubbing alcohol.

I was about to purchase a 48 inch gas range but last minute realized I do not want to clean that beast, opted for a 36" electric cook top/intentionally non-induction. You do realize an electric cooktop is actually harder to clean than a gas cooktop? Also regarding EMF's I'm assuming you also do the following to avoid EMF's? Turn off wifi at night, use radiation cancelling cases and headsets for cellphones, use EMF shields for PCs and notebooks, and avoiding dirty electricity in your home by never using dimmer switches. I hope you also use battery power for your electronics as much as possible as higher EMF exposure occurs when you use a laptop while it is plugged in. And I assume you don't have a microwave too? However if you're interested in real science on the issue, might I suggest reading THIS ARTICLE Personally, I'll take my induction cooktop over electric any day and in reality, you're not spending hours a day in front of cooktop. From the article: "Here’s a very brief explanation of why you don’t have to worry about EMFs in the home. Most modern houses have 200 amperes of power running into them. This is simply not enough power to create EMFs that can damage the human body. And even if it were enough power to be harmful, turning off the offending appliance--or simply stepping a few feet away from it--solves the problem. (Why does this solve the problem? Coffee has been on the list since the early 1970s and has repeatedly been proven to not be a carcinogen (in fact, it seems to actually reduce the rate of some cancers). Yet there it remains--once again, because you can't prove a negative."
