how to clean drip mark off stainless dishwasher?
Comments (189)Well Mo, sgmkj22 et al... we're observing same phenomenon, which seems to have no viable solution other than "staying on top" of the streaks. Which means every day I suppose. But it sure is bizarre that none of us can make real sense of where/how it comes from. For example the vent idea makes sense, however these evaporation vents are in different places on the appliances - yet some of us get the streaks from seemingly unrelated areas. ALSO I wonder if its mostly Bosch brand, or if its a general stainless steel door thing ? Maybe some of them have really thin/flimsy door panel which essentially translates "heat" from inside leaving ghost marks! All I KNOW is that I hate stainless steel appliances, never understood why they became so popular as to be ubiquitous -- and the ONLY reason I have this new dishwasher in SS is because my husband insisted it would "look better" than my old white one. HA ! I think I'll have HIM "stay on top" of the streaks. Thanks everyone for chiming in... We're hosed. That's it....See Morestainless steel cleaner and dishwasher soap
Comments (5)joy824 asks: "...if you can recommend a good dishwaher soap for MIele dishwasher. Thanks in advance." Ecover Automatic Dishwashing Powder (not the same as the tabs). We have used Ecover powder for many years in our Miele G848 dishwasher. Ecover cleans at least as well as any dishwashing detergent that we ever have used, and it will not etch glassware, ever. Previous dishwasher detergents that we used (from the major "soap" companies) appeared to cause color patterns in porcelain to fade over time; we have yet to see any of that kind of fading with Ecover. We even occasionally put dishes with gold or silver plated edges in the dishwasher using Ecover, though we probably would not do that if we used those dishes frequently, even with Ecover. Comments (132)You GO, @Kathy Linn! I resolved early-on in our kitchen design to adopt a "no-stainless" policy (more for the looks than the upkeep), and so set out to find an antique, enameled stove (for cleanability in addition to looks) and even went with copper sinks to avoid SS. My first kitchen was all-white when we bought the house, and not really in a good way - laminate countertops and mdf cabinets in addition to white appliances. It was more work keeping the countertops white than the fridge (although the door handle did yellow with time) but I was done with white by the time we moved. For our build I settled on a 1929 Glenwood, restored at a shop outside Boston. It was a splurge but like yours (which is also very handsome) one we'll never need to replace. I'd like to think if consumers start throwing the SS junk back in appliance companies' (and designers') faces and going with restored antiques or otherwise reliable, easy-to-clean appliances with actual color options that we don't have to replace after 5-10 years, maybe they'll stop telling us what we should want and start producing quality again....See Morestainless steel vs. stainless look a like
Comments (11)I agonized over this when we did our kitchen 3 yrs ago, and again this past winter when we finally updated the refrigerator. (We had kept the glaring white one when we remodeled because it was only 3 yrs old at the time.) I ended up going with everything stainless. I have 2 kids (6 yrs old & 11 yrs old) and a messy husband. The hardest appliance to keep looking good is the dishwasher. It is just touched/handled so many times and stuff just drips. I was surprised with the stainless refrig (with water & ice to the door) that it stays looking pretty good. I had a "training session" for everyone when it arrived and we all try to use the handles. Nonetheless, about once every 2 - 3 weeks, I end up using a SS spray and wiping everything clean. (I drape old towels over the adjacent cabinets and on the floor because of overspray.) In between times, I can usually lessen smudges by a slightly damp miracle cloth. So, if I had to do it again, I would definitely keep the SS stove and range because of the "restaurant look" from a design standpoint. I would try to do a cabinet-covered dishwasher and refrigerator though. Good luck. (BTW, since I already had all the other appliances in place when I shopped for the new refrig, I didn't go with a ss look-alike because I didn't think it would match closely enough to the stainless that I already had.) --DJ...See Moredixiedarlin10
