robbyrob, I have not come across a small tree with a "stake" in it for that purpose, but what I have done is to purchase a small fake tree, the tree has it's own metal pointed shaft that would go into the "stand" that comes with the tree. I would just not use the "stand". I would pour plaster of paris (from a craft store) into the urn and place the tree's pointed metal shaft into the "setting-up" plaster of paris. The plaster of paris drys like cement, and it acts as a "balast" to hold the tree in place with it's weight, so the tree doesn't topple over. You can hide the plaster of paris once it is dry with some fake moss, or even twirl some fake greenery on top of the inner base of the urn under the lower branches to hide the plaster.

For outdoor use, I use the same urns I plant in, so I just leave the dirt in and stick the point in. It stays. After Christmas I have to wait for a warm day to remove the trees, as the get frozen in!

yes, I've seen them on QVC, from Bethlehem Lights.
They have a set of 2 - 3' trees that are prelit.
I looked them up and they sell for about $44.50 for the two. They can be used with the stand, or staked into the earth. The # is H80643.

The Bethlehem Light trees from QVC are nice. My DM bought them for outside and was pleased with the product when they arrived.

I just replaced two urns out front just yesterday, so I am now in the market as well. I am think topiary so as not to have too much to get around on the steps. I am still looking around for the right size and shape. Also, I don't have any electric so I will either light them with battery lights or not light at all:))

My Michaels had them, in the urns etc. My friend said Home Depot had them too,$29.... but I haven't bben there yet!

robbyrob, I went to Home Depot after reading kathleen's post yesterday and found 4' Chicago Slim lighted trees. They are just what I need for the front steps, nice but not too bushy. They are a bit more tapered so I don't have to worry about guest navigating two trees on the steps. They come in an urn, but I just dropped that urn into the urns I just found for my steps. A little moss to cover over and no one will be the wiser:)). The tree can come out of the urn and be staked also. I thought the price was great $29.99. My mom bought the 3' lighted Bethlehem trees from QVC and they were someting like $60 each.

Home Depot also had indoor pre-decorated lighted trees in gold metal-type fancy boxes. Very pretty, but wouldn't last a day in the rain! I am now trying to decide what I want to do with them - decorating. I did buy some pinecones. I better decide quickly or the craft stores will be sold out of their Christmas decorating. AC Moore and Michaels had only have Christmas stuff on Monday.
