?Pocket Door for Bathroom? x-post on the remodel forum.
Comments (9)Geoffrey, Thanks again. The problem is that I can't build the pocket door assembly infront of the 2x4 because that is our hallway. I can only come into the bathroom space for the extra space. I could have an extra wall built for the shower, that bumps into the room at the shower area. I just got off the line with Johnson Hardware people. They stated that they recommend sheathing the pocket area, once constructed, with 3/4" ply. Then on top of that goes the cement board for the tile installation. I asked if the ply should be exterior grade, and the customer service rep. said they didn't think so, or it would have been specified that way by their people. I also indicated in our conversation that I would be using their framing kit that includes the steel clad split studs, and all the hanging hardware. I don't know if that made a difference in the recommendation of the plywood or not. What do you think of that plan? I had hoped to use the hardware from Hafele, but not the framing kit, that is way expensive. But I thought the Hafele might be a good system. I watched an independent Youtube video on Hafele pocket door and it was mentioned sometimes people use the Johnson combined with the floor channel kit from Hafele, to keep the door centered. I was about ready to throw in the towel and do a barn door in the hallway side of the room. I don't know, it might just be a lot easier and I still might do this....See MorePocket door pulls for bathroom suggestions, please!
Comments (5)Hi, I have the Linea (below). It is not installed yet. I choose it because it takes a standard rough-in circle, like a hinged door does. The one you show notches out the door. I wanted flexibility with the door so it could be used as a hinged door if ever that was needed. The Linea I've shown does not come with an end pull though, so I found a pull that Sugatsune sells that is a very close match. The Sugatsune end pull has no moving parts, you stick your finger in and hook the bar that is part of the frame. The Linea is brushed stainless steel. I wished it came in polished chrome....See MoreSmall simple farmhouses-bathroom off kitchens-anyone have?
Comments (20)My older sister lives in an 1850s farmhouse which has a bath off the large kitchen. The door faces the basement entrance in a very small hallway which leads to a bedroom. It is full sized, but only about 8x10. Spent Thanksgiving and Christmas with them, and it really wasn't a problem. The other half of the kitchen serves as a dining room. If you want weird--my own house was built in 1907, with a pantry and small back porch--neither of which was converted to a bathroom. However, there is a full bath upstairs with original fixtures, and a half bath (well, a sink with a wooden counter, and a toilet enclosed with beadboard planks under the stairs), but the strangest of all--the only closet on the first floor--an alcove in the hall next to the kitchen, and facing the basement stairs and side door--had a toilet installed for the convenience of a previous elderly owner! No door either, just a curtain rod which had a shower curtain on it when I bought the place. My very first task: to remove the carpet from the hall floor, then remove that toilet and make it a closet again! Despite this being done 21 years ago, I still have the 6" drain hole in the floor, because my cats love to stick their heads through it to watch me do laundry in the basement! :)...See MoreRecommend handle/latch for bathroom pocket door
Comments (9)You have to spend money on the handle if you want something more than "a big box". I looked and looked. Now others may have differing experiences. I spent around $80 or 90 for my locking set. And I had to buy a pull separate because the set didn't come with a pull. Door pull is: SUG-YK-W100 Sugatsune Stainless Steel Recessed Door Edge Pull (Satin) Door latch is: cant find it oops sorry. I will post again when I find the brand that is shown in my pictures I have posted a link to the hardware hut where I bought the recessed pull. They have simple door insets for the flat side of the door for opening. Here is a link that might be useful: simple door handle...See MoreRelated Professionals
