Window height for 9ft ceilings?
Comments (2)not sure if it looks weird yet... but we're doing 8'6" ceilings. downstairs we're sitting at about 6'8" to the top of the window, mainly b/c we are remodeling and we raised the 8' ceiling to 8'6" and have a porch. on the second floor we raised it to about 16" off the ceiling. basically the double top plate, then 2x12 header, then window. generally thinking, the higher the window, the more light comes in. I don't think they have to 100% relate to one another hieght wise....See MoreInterior Door Height for 9' Ceilings
Comments (13)I have an additional question. I'll see if I can make it make sense. I hadn't really noticed the door & window heights in the kitchen/dining/den until the room was sheetrocked yesterday. The windows are at 8 ft, there's a large one (5x6ft) on the east wall, and in the SE corner there are two regular sized windows making the corner, also at 8ft tall (sink will be in this corner.) We have a cased opening on the North wall at 8ft, looking through that opening you see a 6'8" door across a small hallway. On the SW corner of the West wall there is a 6'8" pocket door and right next to it on the South wall in the SW corner we have a 8' cased opening. I'm thinking I should lower all the door heights, especially since two bascially are next to each other making the corner of the room. But will that be odd w/ the window height being 8 ft? The window will sit basically right next to the kitchen cabinets and then in the corner there is windows that are also 8ft high....See MoreHelp with ceiling height/door and window heights
Comments (12)How are you going to vent your dryer? You have a maximum of 25' run and that's without any turns. Is there a reason you need three separate eating areas? And is there a reason you want a house and especially a kitchen that will be dark? When you enter your master bath do you really want to see the toilet closet first? Is there a reason there is only a single small window in bedrooms 2 and 3? Why are there only 2 small windows on either side of the fireplace in the great room?...See MoreDoor and window height for 9 foot ceilings with a partial vault
Comments (17)The vaulted ceiling peaks at 13 feet, I believe. We wanted skylights and for the room to feel spacious given its diminutive size. I had been in two other houses with this design and loved them. Almost didn't vault the kitchen but my mother, who may live there one day, really, really wanted the kitchen vaulted as well. I generally agree about corner fireplaces and the rendering shows it sticking out further than it actually will. The hearth will serve as additional seating. There isn't a sectional, it's a sofa with a side table and two chairs. I will only have one chair in the corner, though, not two. The 10x10 room will not have a queen bed in the traditional sense - I agree, that would be very tight. The daybed space cantilevers out 2.5 feet and will have a queen mattress with drawers underneath and built in bookcases / drawer storage flanking it. That frees up some space on the far wall for a little desk or dresser, as the bed will only extend into the 10x10 space by about 2.5 feet, 3 at the most. It is a bit unconventional but I like the flexibility it provides the space....See Moreauroraborelis
