question for the pros re: 2-part epoxy garage floor paint
Comments (3)You mention weather - it's been humid and I don't see any end in sight. I've been running a dehumidifier in the garage. I've lightly sanded the areas to be painted and washed with TSP. Dried thoroughly. I'm assuming these areas will stand out because there's no wet edge to blend in to. Should I tape the area off? The time to let it react is 30 min for the whole gallon. Quikrete said some people apply a second coat of paint and some a clear sealer. I would guess they aren't sanding between coats? Quikrete said some people apply a second coat of paint and some do a coat of clear sealer. I'm guessing that sanding in between these coats is not required? I've got a clean coffee can to mix in as well. Can you see any holes in my plan? Just a little nervous about doing this - more so than the whole floor which I did myself as well. Comments (16)I have a "chip" floor in the basement and a quartz aggregate floor in the garage. Both commercial. The "chip" floor was done by prepping the floor, putting down a layer of "sticky stuff", and then dumping several boxes of chips on the floor and raking them all around to fully embed. My floor is "solid" chips - not sprinkled on like shown and available in the DIY kits. The chips are about 1/16" thick and then they used a blower to blow off any stragglers. Then - several costs of clear epoxy were applied, still leaving a slight texture for slip resistance. The quartz aggregate floor is troweled on to whatever thickness is necessary, can be used to repair cracks / smooth. It also can be used to cove up the wall and fill in the corner condition where expansion strips were used and sometimes leave an ugly corner that just collects crap. We troweled this up the wall to meet the trim on top of the foundation / transition to sheetrock. I don't think we could get either result with a DIY product or process....See MoreRough Epoxy Garage Floor
Comments (2)Laura. You can still get a nice finish out of it. Definitely call them back because from the way it sounds from your post, a topcoat was not applied. To fix it yourself; go over the surface with a metal floor scraper or metal snow shovel to break away pieces that are sticking out. Really take the time to go over the entire surface and don't worry about leaving scratches because the next step will remedy it (just don't get too carried away as to gouge out a piece of the surface). After you break them down, vacuum and really sanitize the area from dust and debris. Then, apply a clear, epoxy topcoat. Good luck!...See Morepainting two car garage and epoxy floors, new build
Comments (4)If your walls are bare, the price for painting sounds reasonable I’m not a fan of epoxy floors unless it’s a commercial grade and professionally installed. Everyone I know has continual peeling from the “kit” applications and patches look patched Ours made of 12” interlocking tile. Brand is Race Deck. Easy replacement should one damage. Available in many colors, easy install. Chop Saw trim for two sides is all. Water drains below and they’re easy clean...See Moregarymunson_2009
