Meile gas cooktop vs Consumer Reports
Comments (13)I like CR, but there is a caveat to their reviews. They are geared towards the middle... they very often underrate high-end appliances / stereos / wines / cars / etc. Why is that? 1. They have a set of criteria to use when rating. Time to boil, ease of cleanup, etc. Design, durability, "feel"... these don't really enter into it as much. 2. Reliability ratings come from customer feedback. High-end items are made in smaller production volumes, and consequently don't have as much "real-world" usage, so there may be more reliability issues. But, feedback more often comes from people who are upset with a product rather than satisfied with it, so a smaller pool of possible reviews can greatly skew actual findings. (See CRs obvious dislike of Sub Zero, Viking, etc due to reliability reports). I do think their reviews are useful on high-production items (Toasters, Blenders, Common Cars, etc), but wherever "style and feel" are involved, I tend to ignore what they have to say....See MoreConsumer Reports trashes Verona, Bertazzoni ranges
Comments (4)Testing is one thing. Using day to day is another. As a former Bertazzoni owner, I didn't have any issues with the range. I didn't need a gigantic oven. The burners work as they work -- it is well known. If you don't like the way the burners work there are other ranges to buy. The double-tier 18K burner did an excellent job. The simmer was very good. The Berta doesn't try to compete with Wolf. It does what it does at a certain price point. It would be far more useful to compare ranges at the same price points to each other rather than to lump ranges together because they are Italian imports. And if a test lab is doing that where are Ilve and the others?...See MoreThermador reliability vs Wolf or Dacor ovens and cooktops
Comments (14)Thermador is extremeley reliable. I had a Thermador 36" electric coil cooktop for 18 years, 4 burners and griddle in the middle, not one problem, still works, but we did a big house reno including the kitchen, so went with new appliances. I now have the Thermador built in oven, very good unit, largest capacity out there too. It is pure convection, pure convention or combo of the two. The only small negative I have is the spacings of bars on the oven racks themselves are a bit wide, only time I notice it is if I do a large batch of banana loaves and instead of doing 2 large loaves, I make 6 mini loaves. Then you have to space the mini loaf pans exactly right so they dont keel a bit. I went with a Viking 6 burner induction cooktop. I had a Dacor built in oven previously, same type of model, either pure convection, pure convention or a combo, worked great, but had a few issues at the end, ie: sensor went (they dont have thermometers) and was fairly expensive to replace. Also, Dacor does not seem to keep parts in supply for as long. If I kept it much longer and would need parts, some would not be available. My friend has a Thermador star burner gas cooktop, she likes it a lot and has no problem with simmering. I would buy Thermador again in the blink of an eye, they are extremely reliable from my experience....See More30" gas cooktop advice - bosch NGM8054UC or wolf?
