I recently purchased a Database on line from Database Oasis I love it. So simple and easy to use and having multiple photos is easy. Since I purchased it I built another computer. On the old one I downloaded SP2. Running XP Home. The SP2 disk from MS was used on new computer. Now it will not install. MK software has been working with me to fix it. They have been using InstallShield. I think they might be going to another installer. Has any one been having problems with installing software using InstallShield and SP2?

They have a free trial download it is worth trying if you need a database and are not a guru.

If you are getting an access denied while installing SP2 from the MS CD, which happened to me the other day, go to this MS support page and follow the dirrections to create a svcpack.log & the setupapi.log and it will pinpoint the registry key that is denying access, and they tell you exactly what value to change it to, then it'll install fine.

That's if this is your problem:

"You receive an "Access is denied" error message when you try to install Windows XP Service Pack 2"

"CAUSE
These issues may occur when permissions for one or more registry keys are restricted in a way that prevents the update of those registry keys. A failure to update a registry key may cause the Setup program to fail."

Mike,
Your post is unclear to me. Are you having trouble installing SP2 or your new database?

I think Randy assumed you are having trouble installing SP2. But if that's the case, I don't understand what the database has to do with it.

Since just about everything seems to use InstallShield, I think the world would have ground to a halt if it didn't work after SP2. :)

Hmmm...thanks for digging that up. So that's a confirmation from six years back that I've asked that DG people don't copy any of the work and it was ignored. Oh yeah, along the way I learned about copyrights, method, patent, etc. I've got a bunch of registrations right here on the wall behind me. WS has been a huge learning experience. Is anyone having trouble seeing the maps on the usda plant database?

Sometimes it takes a while for the map to load. Also, I have noticed that the county level data is sometimes a little lacking. Plants I know are found in a certain county are not shown to be there, even when all surrounding counties are "green." I know it has to do with certain documentation, and whoever did the survey either didn't find it or didn't survey that particular county. Just take it with a grain of salt is all I'm saying.

I think you read it better than me.
Now it will not install
It must be Database Oasis after SP2.
Anyway, I've never had a problem installing software using InstallShield or any other installer that comes with software.

1. I downloaded SP2 from MS online and installed it.
2. I downloaded Database Oasis and installed it.
Database Oasis working fine

3. Built a new computer.
4. Purchased SP2 disk from MS and installed it
Everything working fine.

5. Tried to install Database Oasis. Everything goes fine until I get to the final screen where it starts the install. It aborts after 30 seconds. I get a message stating installation interrupted and nothing has been changed on you computer.

I have been working with The database people and they plan to change installers. I have one other trial database( Two versions) that uses InstalShield. One version works the other does the same thing.

The only difference I see between the 2 is that the MS CD SP2 needs about 40 more updates to be current.
The downloaded version would be the most up to date.
I just had a problem installing WMP 11 stopping at 87% on a new install of XP. I formatted and reinstalled XP and the WMP 11 install went fine.
You could try to install Database Oasis while in safe-mode (tap the F8 key on boot up) or at least with the anti-virus, firewall and any other running programs turned off.
