Sorry to be a pest, but..........

In my system tray there is an icon that looks like a little yellow shield. When I put my cursor over it, it say, "embedded security not initialized". I know how to do this, but what is it and "should" I do it. When the tech set up my computer, it was supposed to be ready to go and this hadn't been done. Should I go ahead and follow the wizard and do this?

I have an HP computer running XP Professional.

Hey, I'm not "totally" without knowledge...it's just this security stuff that has be baffled right now.

I have to take my computer in because of the sound problem and the tech says I must have some malware, and it just "couldn't" be any of the hardware he installed...I think differently but, I'm trying to scan all I can to see for sure if there is something there causing the problem before I actually unhook everything and take it to the shop.

Im not an authority but did you run spybot, ad-adware or superAntispyware? Also I would run AVG or what ever virus protection you have.
First I would delete all temp and off line files and cookies.
There are also online scans you can run.

I know next to nothing but for what it is worth - I get that little yellow shield with my WXP but when I hover on it - it tells me that the automatic download of new security stuff from windows is installing. Could it be that yours is not turned on? Debbie

People hadn't answered in the Pest Forum because your critter is too beat up for a proper ID. That forum is never 'dead', by the way. Your post stayed on top because it was a bad image. Since you were impatient, I guessed it to be some sort of large wasp, such as a Cicada Killer. The Pest Forum stays busy all year round, but the questions accompanied by decent photographs get answered quickly.

Hi Leslie, Actually I'm saying that we can't know for sure what has gone on. It could be "mixed up" offspring. If you knew what lilies were in the set you could check to see if any off them are capable of producing fertile seed. Many hybrids don't, but those that do don't reproduce true to type - even when they are pollinated by their own kind - much less if they are cross pollinated. Bulblets and Bulbils are clones, but if for some reason the more "peachy" lilies were tougher and survived better, their clones could dominate. The only color variability I've found with my lilies are with Bicolor lilies. For example I have a bulb of Triumphator that had hardly ANY pink in its throat this year, (looks like it's Easter Lily parent). The rest of them look like they should, as did that bulb last year. But I've never had a lily change its color to something totally different, that it didn't already have at least some of. All of my lilies are labled so its easy to keep track of them. (I have a tight garden and need to know where everything is so I don't dig them up accidentally while planting others). -Helen

Hattrick, I got that in Pittsburgh. Dont know if you live here, but with a name like yours its possible! There is a nursery right next to North Park, not far from Passavant Hospital. I don't live in that area so the name escapes me. That was 2 years ago, and if everyone got the same results as me, I'm betting they don't carry them anymore.

Thanks, I went to my "other" set top and TV, the one with the upscale set top I figured I no longer needed as I no longer purchase on-demand and other stuff it supports... but as the tech support told me that box could tune the HD I decided to try it... indeed I can turn in the channels in the 800 band and some of them come through to my standard definition TV. There may be a mismatch on the aspect ration - but the pictures are quit useable. Seems that TV set (a vacuum tube picture tube) is HD compatible. I'll check my bill to see if I am paying the extra HD ST Box fee, if so I'll send the box back, maybe after I change to satellite TV.

Do you have Norton AntiVirus installed, that sounds like the norton anti virus shield, right click on the shield see what it says. Right clicking will not start the program but should give you options with in it.

I have McAfee AntiVirus. When I right click I get a little pop up box that says, "Embedded Security Initialization" and "Manage Embedded Security" If I click on the first one, it takes me to a wizard that walks me through the steps, but I haven't done that because I didn't know if I should initialize this or not.

That is odd I would not do anything. The only yellow shields I know are Norton and the windows up-date ones. The funny thing is usually when there is a icon any icon in the system tray that that program is already running..

Call me clueless in pittsburgh...

It appears it may have something to with McAfee but I can not find out exactly what it is. Can you run your McAfee virus scan just to see if everything is working, you dhould find McAfee in your programs list.

I'ts a HP thing it appears. It says it's a TPM embedded Security Chip....I'll go to their website and check it out when I have time. I don't know what TPM is. All is well with McAfee
