Our Outdoor Decorations for Fall & Halloween

This past week the boys and I were on Fall Break so we (mostly me Ha! Ha!) set to work decorating outside. We went to a local pumpkin farm & picked out our pumpkins, gourds, & corn stalks. My parents gave us a hay bale, and I picked up some mums to make this display. We already had the ghost from last year (a gift from my mom to the boys).

The boys & my niece had such a fun time at the pumpkin farm. They're family of close friends of ours. They got to decorate small pumpkins with markers, go through a small hay bale maze, and play in some dried corn/wheat which was surprisingly fun for them.

Here's a jack-o-lantern my husband's aunt made for us and a ghost my mom found at Old Time Pottery. It looks funny with all the impatiens still blooming so profusely.

The boys love looking at it as we leave and come home each time.

Cindy your decorations are so cute. I can see the boys having such fun (&YOU) setting everything up.
I love your arrangement with the Ghost standing on the haystack, and all the gourds,pumpkins and mums..Very pretty.
The wreath on your front door looks just beautiful.
Also, I can see your little guys enjoying that fun 'spooky ghost' and jack o'lantern.
From the stores you mentioned - Ross/Old Time Pottery..
how far South are you? I know of those places when I was in FL. I love shopping there...such great buys.

Love your decorations you and the boys put up. That purple ghost is great. I love the corn stalks when decorating outside. Last year I planted corn in the center in my oak barrels instead of spikes. I had the stalks ready for halloween decorations in the fall. Your DH's aunt done a nice job on the pumpkin and your DM picked out a cute ghost to go with it.

Your wreath looks good on your front door in the background.

It was only 8 above here today and I just couldn't get in the mood to go spend time outside so it's great to come here and enjoy yours. Tell those boys they rock at HELPING with the decorations.

WOW! Thanks for all of your nice comments. I decorate for Halloween for our own kids. Living out in the woods, we usually get only 5 trick-or-treaters, and they all come at once in the same car! Our neighbors... :o) Jan, we picked out a house design, and then tweaked it. We really wanted a country porch, dormers, and lots of windows. (We love watching the widlife from the windows.) Susie, I used GEII after painting the BB copper. I'm working on another one right now as a Christmas gift for a friend. Jan, those pumpkins are metal. Bought them at JoAnn's Fabrics. We love rustic furniture. Just like my twig fence and arbor, I now make twig furniture. Now you know why I sign everything "Bear Hugs". I love bears and even live on Bear Creek in an area called Bear Creek Crossing. My fourth graders are known as The Grizzlies. I've attached an old post of mine, sharing some of my bears. I had just finished posting to this and we had a power surge and lost all of it. So I'll try again. Karen, I'll keep you posted on Joe and the little Spooks. Thanks for your comments on the Ghost. OA, I've always decorated DGD swing set and play house for Christmas. This year I used it for Halloween too since it's easy access to power. Dream, thanks and glad you like Joe. The carving on him is amazing. Jeanne, thanks for all the sweet comments. We live at the bottom of the Mission Mtns. Those are hills in the scarecrow picture and are our view in the back. I'll show you a moutain shot we see from the front in June. They are beautiful most of the year. Lynn, thanks and if you want to come trick or treating now you're very Welcome. Our place is right next to the highway so we always try to light things up pretty well for the Holidays. We've done so much in the past and everyone has grown to expect it so we usually have most of the yard decorated. This year only the front and side. Frou, we generally get up to 150 little gobblins at our home. They have started doing Halloween parties at some of the Club Houses so it has cut back to 100 a couple years. DH grew up here and I came as a 1st grader so we're not stragers and most parents come in with their children just to say "Hi". your sweet comments on this post. Punk

laurience - I live in southeastern New Hampshire (northeastern US coast, I don't expect Canadians to know American geography, especially the puny little states! :-)). The cats are really kind of freaky in person, they're black rubber with glow-in-the-dark eyes and quite disturbing looking in a funny way. I got them from a mail order catalog called Oriental Trading Company along with the bird perched on the pumpkin (which came in a pair but I couldn't figure out what to do with the second one so it's perched on top of my TV LOL) and the temporary tattoos we're giving out to the trick-or-treaters. I could have spent a LOT more money on decorations there, they had a lot of very nifty things, but I had to behave myself this year. alex9179 - DH laughed like crazy when I came back from Walgreens with the bat. It was only $5 and Oriental Trading was out of stock on the nicer bats I wanted, so I figured what the heck. I'll be wanting to trade places with you down there on the Gulf coast come 'round February, when fall color is a distant memory and chipping ice off the windshield is getting very, very old!

I have a carport (who in the South doesn't?) attached to my house. I refuse to let my hubby put a car in there though because I use it like an outdoor room. I put a pretty light fixture in the ceiling and I got an old, not-good-enough-for-indoor oriental rug to cover part of the poured cement floor. Where we live it's between two mountains so the ground is really hilly. The front part of the carport is at ground level and it's about 2 1/2' off the ground at the back side, which contains the door to my mud room. It's really cute and cozy out there. I have a rustic loveseat and an early American end table out there. I use four strings of Hallmark Boo Blinker pumpkin lights to string around the outside edges of the room and the two support pillars I cover with cornstalks. Then I put pumpkins and three big (10") pots of mums at the bottom of each cornstalk pillar. I buy all different color mums. I think it looks nice with the variety of colors instead of sticking to certain ones. Then I get two bales of hay and use one to make a scarecrow (and my hubby's old jeans and flannel shirt) and the other for the scarecrow to sit on. His head is a pumpkin. I also have other cute little Halloweenie decorations sitting around and then after Halloween is over I bring in the ones that are very obviously Halloween and leave the rest out there till Thanksgiving. (Don't get me started on the rest of the house we'll be here forever!) Then like a couple of big overgrown kids on Thanksgiving weekend my mother-in-law and I spend the weekend taking down the fall stuff and putting up the beginning of the Christmas decorations. :)

I agree with all that Jane said, everything turned out really cute. Your corn stalks and hay display turned out great, and the wreath on the door is such a accent. I think decorating just makes the season/holiday so much more special--love it, love it, love it! Luvs

Cindy, your yard looks really cute. I don't decorate much outdoors, but lots of people here do. Here in NC, things are still looking pretty summery, with just a little autumn around the edges.
