searchin' for wireless
I have been lurking here for months and have learned a great deal about computers. Now I have a wireless problem and need help.
I just bought a used laptop, IBM ThinkPad R52 Centrino Wireless Laptop, 1.73 GHZ, 1512 mb ram and 60G hard drive with an Intel 802.11 abg Mini PCI wireless adapter. We have a Linksys 2.4 GHZ wireless router at home with a cable (roadrunner) internet connection. The router is less than 6 months old.
The laptop will not recognize the wireless signal on its own. I have to plug the ethernet cord into the laptop from the router, jump on the internet , wait a few moments and then the wireless signal starts flashing on the laptop, I disconnect the ethernet and then I'm good to go.
As long as I don't shut the computer down, the laptop will stay connected via wireless indefinetly. However, if I shut down the computer (overnight) then the next morning the laptop does not recognize the wireless signal, then I have to go downstairs and hook up the ethernet to the latop and start the process all over again.
Any ideas of whats going on?
THANKS
