"Computer graphics" covers a lot of ground. It would be helpful to know which programs he'll be running. This is probably the right time to recommend that you get a video card in the new computer-something with 512kb video memory or more if available. If funds are available, a faster processor wouldn't hurt either. "Refurbished" means that someone else already bought the unit and returned it as unsatisfactory (for whatever reason. Maybe something was broken-maybe they just didn't like it)...so it can't be resold as new. Supposedly, these get rechecked and are certified to be like new before being sold as refurbs and MAY OR MAY NOT have the same warranty as new depending on where you get it. Read the fine print before you buy.

What Brand of Laptops Do you have? What Operating System do they have (Windows 7, Windows 8 or 8.1)? I would suggest doing a Reinstall of your Operating System using Recovery Disks. Did you make your Recovery Disks Like recommended in your Laptops Paperwork? The Manufacturers no longer send Recovery Disks, you must either make a set of DVD Recovery Disks or make a Flash Drive Recovery Disk! You may also be able to Purchase a Recovery Set or Flash Drive from the Manufacturer. I purchased a Refurbished Laptop that had a Clean Install of Windows 8 (not with the Acer Software Recovery Disks). The Seller didn't use Acer Recovery Disks but used a Retail Windows Disk that removed the Recovery Partition. I was unable to create a recovery disk not having a Recovery Partition. I wanted the Laptops Reset to factory but with that clean install the Recovery Partition was removed. Anyway, I ordered a Recovery Flash Drive from Acer for $45+ Tax shipped (about $50 all together). I've since restored my laptop to factory settings and currently have Windows 10 Home Installed! There isn't anyone trying to collect $150 a year for anything. I'm assuming that you may have some form of Virus/Malware/Spyware on your system! Windows 10 shouldn't have tried to install unless you told it you wanted to upgrade!

The fema insurance company will be giving us more than that thank God. They are the ones that pay for the structure damages and we had heavy structure damages. The $500 was what they allowed us for anything else like the furniture, food, clothing etc lol. Hey at this point I am thankful for every dollar we get because it's just never ending, you think you have found all the bad things and suddenly you find a new one. Like the fact that when we took the walls out we discovered that the idiots, that at some point in time did work on the house, had connected a drain pipe for the hot water heater (in case of a leak or pop off valve) they just ended it in the wall! So had there been a leak all the water drains in the wall. By code it must drain to the exterior of the house. So that involves re routing pipe from the hot water heater outside. I don't know what they were thinking I guess they didn't care. AndA while they were examining the hot water heater they found a rust spit on it that is just about rusted through. So we need a new hot water heater. Things like that of course are not covered by anything but our wallet! But omg how fortunate to have found that pipe into the wall and the rust because just imagine had we completed the remodeling and the dang hot water heater give way and the pipe to the wall floods the house! That's fortunate, same with finding the termites and the major rot in the back wall. Those were all things we had no idea about. Very costly things but this is the perfect time to fix it. Dedtired- how do you like your new iPad so far? The 10.5" is intriguing but I wonder if it's more than I need so I was curious what you thought. I like the keyboard/cover too. I know how you feel about the mental exhaustion - this week I've been researching cell phones but when I discovered that Verizon will give me $200 additional off an iPad I figured I'd upgrade that too and give my 9.7" to my DDIL. She's pregnant with her first and may find the iPad handier than her big Macbook. As I mentioned in my other thread my son gave me an iWatch a month ago that's still in the box. So I envision moving into my local Apple store while I take their classes - luckily I have 2 Apple stores within 8 miles so I can spread my ignorance around a little. lol
