'Fraid not! First thing I tried. I've been struggling with this for 2 days now, ever since I downloaded IE7. From the web, seems like lots of people have this problem, but either the solutions don't work, or I don't understand the computerese :-(

uninstall IE7, that would be next step to see if issue goes away.

I am on IE6 and-------
Some web pages I can't paste into Word (I get the darn "not responding").
It stops running so I open Word again. This time, I go up to Edit, Click on Paste Special, in the box that pops up, I highlight Unformatted text. Then it takes

I know about the security problems with IE6. To correctly diagnosis your issue we need to go backwards a bit, so lets go back to ie6 and see if that resolves the issue with word after all you said the problem occurred when you installed it. Lets start there..

Want to skip all That stuff. Do a System Restore.

I always use the paste special box any time I paste into word have you tried doing it that way? Select Edit, select paste special select unformatted text.

also what method are you using to do the copy and paste if you are using the right click method for copy then paste instead use the controlC to copy and controlV to paste that will often times work when the right click will not. Or try clicking on Edit and copy then edit and paste.

You have to have something on your clip board first.
Click on Edit
Click on Paste Special
Click on Unformatted Text to highlight it.
Then Paste what you have on your clipboard.

Thanks so much urlee, but I can't click on Paste special, because the WHOLE edit menu in Word is grey. Nothing is highlighted at all, nothing is clickable!

Also I never ever had to do anything as complicated (even if I could do it!) when I had IE6. It was soo simple. Could do it all with right clicks.

this is NOT normal for IE7 you have a distinct problem and zep is wanting you to remove IE7 in order to see if this can be fixed. I would agree I would go to add remove programs and remove IE7 this will put you back at IE6 make sure you can copy and paste as normal, then go to the download page for IE7 and get the download and install it again, I think you got a corrupt file some where. I am assuming you are using xp?

I really appreciate how much everyone is trying to help me. Yes urlee, the edit menu works fine when I am copying from anything, and I can copy and paste just as usual from a webpage to my yahoo email. It is only when I am trying to work with Word. I feel that some setting has been disabled when I downloaded IE7. On Friday I will try to uninstall, see if I get back to the good old days. What was the problem with 6, I wonder -- I'm so wishing I had left well alone!

IE6 is very out dated and insecure the big problem right now is a bad vulnerability that can allow intrusion, the reason they are urging everyone to move away from IE6 is they will soon stop supporting it completely, many websites already do not support IE6 it is hard for the web site creators and developers to try to keep up with such outdated programs so many just stopped.

Phew, back in the land of Word Users! I am VERY VERY embarrassed. I hadn't registered my version of OFFICE, just kept clicking 'will register later '. So sorry to have caused everyone so much trouble. Don't know whether it was because it was the second (or maybe third) time I downloaded from the CD, or what the deal is -- very ignorant about these things. REALLY sorry. And now I am back with IE6, and am wondering if I should download IE8!

You could download IE8, or you could switch to a browser that is, in my opinion, better, faster, more secure, and more flexible than IE. Try Firefox...it looks a lot like IE, but is more user friendly and you can easily export all of your bookmarks so they also work in Firefox.

I would not stay with IE6 google has just put out info it will no longer support IE6 and many other websites have gone along with them on that it is just too hard for them to continue to support so many versions, go to IE7 or 8 or as mentioned above go with firefox also but you still need to move away from Ie6 on your pc because it is very insecure so even if you do not use it you need to update it.
I use firefox only unless I have to do a windows update that is the only time I use IE but I do still keep it updated.
