MalWB Incident

Can anyone tell me what happened here during MWB scan?

Looks more like an Avast incident, the error states that avastUI.exe had a problem and needed to close. Perhaps it was a scan conflict. Restart the computer, confirm Avast is functioning correctly, rerun the malwarebytes scan and see if it runs ok this time.

Did you check to see what data this error report contains, as instructed on the Error message window?

VERY Disappointed that I didn't have the brains to see that and do so!

I think maybe I did and should not have, left the computer online-----I was updating all my spyware programs then started scanning not thinking.

Could that have messed up Avast to be the reason I can not scan my computer with it? It scans selected folders but not quick or thorough.
I uninstalled and installed new but the same thing is.

When I scan with MalWB and SuperAnti, should I be offline and Avast disabled?

Also, should that little "ladybug" be on the system tray next to the Avast icon?

Here is the problem I am having with Avast:

    Hi,

That error you got avastUI.exe had a problem and needed to close shouldn't be a big deal. It looks like maybe there was a conflict with scanning. It's possible 2 scanners tried to access the same file or they both tried to access a memory location at the same time. Updating at the same time may have also caused an issue.

Scanning on line should be ok as long as nothing is in the up-dating mode. That Lady bug is SuperAntispyware. only run 1 scanner at a time. Right click on the Ladybug and see if SuperAntispyware is done scanning that program takes forever sometimes. Make sure everything is done scanning. Then could you try 1 more scan with Avast and see what happens.

I am sorry------That lady bug is on my laptop computer next to the Avast icon. It shows up there whenever I have the computer on and was wondering why? I didn't tell it to scan? Is it running steady whenever I have the computer on?
How do I stop that from happening? I usually run it when I want.
Avast runs OK like it should on my laptop.

The ladybug (SuperAnti) is not down there by the Avast icon (system tray) on my desktop where I am having that problem with Avast.

I just opened Contol Center and see it is checked "Show SuperAnti icon in system tray" under Start up Options.
Should I uncheck it or leave it?

Just because the Ladybug is showing does not mean SuperAntiSpware is scanning. You can certainly uncheck it.

that lady bug is just a shortcut to the program and makes it easy to just go to your desktop and hit that icon to start the program it is only a shortcut icon only so if you remove it, that will not affect the program but you will then have to go to your programs list to be able to access it to do your scan.

    Urlee,

Bug is as reported, no big deal. Just a quick pointer to the application. It places nothing in start-up or in services.

Do you have SAS configured for real-time protection? My opinion is it should be an on-demand application. Too many operational safeguards can potentially cause a conflict.

Answer is located on the Real-time Protection tab in Preferences.

    DA,
I just looked to see and nothing is checked. Thanks.
THANK you so much for the "Play by Play" instructions for how and where to go to get there.

Yes, the bug is handy to access SAS.

Sorry for any offense in calling it a "lady bug" when it could be a "man bug"? "lol"

    Welcome my friend.

Except for this past fall the ladybug-like insect, actually a beetle from Japan, have been nothing but a real pain at the end of the summer. They were called everything but "lady". All the compliments of importing them to this country by Washington.

I know what you mean DA! They weren't as bad this fall as they were last year. Maybe we sent them all your way? "lol"

Just like the "army worms" when my neighbor asked how come she has more on her house than I do. I told her I said for them to go over there. "lol" Nothing like a little squirt of Dawn!

But----Aren't those Japan beetles different from OUR lady bugs of yesteryear? Like when I was a kid?

We have enough of our own goodies to have to have imports!

You can't call them Japanese beetles as they are not. That's something else. These critters are beetles from Japan which closely resemble our indigenous lady bugs. They bite and are odoriferous when crushed.

Supposedly our ever-over-achieving government made the decision to import them to "naturally" control the potato aphids. Well they loved those aphids, and even liked the aphids on soybeans as much. The only problem turned out to be that they had no natural enemy here. So they thrived. They stayed in the crops undetected, and then when the crops came down lookout. You would drive and they hit the vehicle windshield like rain. Some days you would walk through the yard and the air would be filled with them like snow. They were everywhere, and when the cold weather came they sneaked into homes through every hole and crack. For whatever the reason they have slowed down greatly from their peak time 6-7 years ago.

humm isn't that how our current kudzu invasion began as an import to fix something? You think they would have learned a lesson.
"During the Great Depression of the 1930s, the Soil Conservation Service promoted kudzu for erosion control. Hundreds of young men were given work planting kudzu through the Civilian Conservation Corps. Farmers were paid as much as eight dollars an acre as incentive to plant fields of the vines in the 1940s. "

did you know there is a kudzu cookbook? Now they are eating it!

Interesting. And to think that I thought it all started in 2003 when "9" joined the forum. Learn something new every day. :-)

Well I guess we can forget about getting Avast to work cause the love of my life (desktop computer) just went kaput on me.
I ran a Trend Micro House Call being Avast wouldn't scan and that turned out clean if that means anything. Then I did some other stuff I wanted to do and it turned out I couldn't X out of anything nor go to start to shut down. I had to hold in on the power button to shut it off. Then when turned back on, I got the "scolding screen" where you have to use the arrow keys to choose "start normal" or "when last started OK".
Neither worked and I can't get past that.

I wonder if my hard drive failing can do that cause the last week or so I had a speed up and down sound like it does when it's working hard?
