Logging on help

Last Thursday or Friday, my computer had a nervous breakdown. Now I'm ha ving one. LOL. It kinda coughed, made a noise, and shutdown. It doesn't seem to have damaged anything, except that everytime I long on, it logs on to a temporary profile, and none of my files are there. I was able to log on once, somehow, to my regular screen, but everytime since it logs on to the temp file, and I have to go through the looooooog process of logging in because it doesn't doesn't save anything on log off. I know my files are still there because I can access them thru the control panel. How do I fix this & get back to my regukar original profile? I tried using CCleaner to delete the temp files but it didn't help. Any suggestions?

HP pavilion dv6 notebook, Intel core i3 cpu, M330 @ 2.13 ghz, memory 4096 mb, Win7.

I have scanned with MWB, SASpyware, SWBlaster all updated, use ZA & Avast. Do you need any other info?

Easiest maybe is to go to the windows start button / programs / accessories / system tools .... then run the System Restore program & choose a restore point on a date & time slightly b4 this all happened.

Mikie, thanks for answering at this ridiculous hour. I have tried that, and did again just now, but since this is the temporary profile file, there are no restore points. Eveerything is cleared out everytime I log off. I have to log in again to every site, and restart every program. What a pain. I know it must be simple, but I can't remember how to log on to my file. If I could do that, I would try the restore again.

Thanks for the suggestion, Marie! I will have to check and see what the listing would be if the logs didn't sell. The cost could be prohibitive, but who knows? People sell houses and cars on there; why not logs?? lol

Well if you had success with Malwarebytes perhaps it is not necessary to run Superantispyware. If you would care to try then as you start the computer keep tapping the F8 button and a screen will appear with start up options. Select safe mode, everything will look totally different to the normal startup because only essential drivers have been allowed to start. My concern was the fact you mentioned AVG was not running properly. That is a good indicator of trouble. On reading the initial post a second time it appears you overcame that issue

Worth replacing vent-free log set?

I have had American Hearth vent-free log set for close to 10 years now. I can't stand the smell, everyone else in the house can't smell a thing and loves the heat. I have received a couple of quotes on the installation of a Regency direct vent fireplace, and am waiting for one more from an installer that has a good reputation. Gas type is propane. I have had the thermocouple replaced twice now, most recently a couple of months ago, and the guy suggested I clean the logs to help with the smell. I have cleaned them annually, but no difference to me. Before I spend $5,000+ for a new fireplace, is there any merit in replacing the vent-free log set with a newer set? I am wondering if the newer logs have improved over the years?

If you start computer tapping the F8 key does your start up menu it takes you to show;
Repair my Computer ?

Do that & you should see a new graphical menu offering
Start up repair !!!

and also
System Restore

Start up repair hopefully .. all will be well // if not use that system restore option to choose a date b4 your problem started.

I'm not sure about Windows 7, but can you go to Start in lower left hand corner and then choose Log Off, and then choose Switch User? Once you get to the Administrative User account, you can then delete the Temp Profile.....that's if I'm understanding you correctly.

Thanks Mikie and Chemocurl, for your suggestions. I can't try them right now but I will sometime today. I am set up as Administrator, but there is not a Temporary Profile there to delete. I'll study the link Chenocurl provided and see where that leads. Registry is scary.
