those of you building with cedar ... stain color help please

we are finally getting around to starting the patio on our new construction home ... hubbie is going to build a cedar pergola and some cedar patio furniture to fit our large family... can anyone that has recently built with cedar share the stain manufacturer and color that you used. I love wood grain so any stain that is lighter in color and shows the natural beauty of the wood is the look I am going for. I am really bad at picking out stains so if you can share it would be so appreciated.

I just wanted to update my post with a final decision. They pressed us for a stain choice two months ago and they JUST STAINED IT ON THURSDAY! How's that for urgency? Anyway, after much thought and consideration we went with Minwax Walnut gel stain for the front door. Thanks to all who offered thoughts and opinions. I think it turned out beautiful. Here are a few pics as I know that's what we all REALLY want to see... :-)

Fresh Start comes in both oil and latex. You want the oil based version.

For the fence projects my outfit builds that require finish we use this stuff >>www.wooddefender.com It has a long set up time that I dont like for decks but for a fence it works well. I have never seen the need for any primer combined with an outdoor finish. J.

"The contractor recommended using Minwax gel stain in color mahogany and then seal it" Find another contractor, MInwax gel stain in not something you want to use for exterior beautiful cedar in any way shape or form.
