Niche, shelf, or baskets one more time
Comments (5)My builder is not a big fan of the niche (although I certainly thought they were the next best thing to sliced bread when I first saw them years ago!). Not sure whether he is concerned about the water leakage possibilities (which there would certainly be more of in a two person (or even one person) shower than in a tub/shower) or he doesn't like the look in older houses (1920 and older) which he specializes in. I will be having my own basket or shelf battle! BTW- would love to know what you picked for toilets-- I am having second thoughts on my first choice and about to post!) thanks, Karen...See Moreshower baskets vs. corian shelves in shower
Comments (11)The Waterfall Soap Saver looks AWESOME!!! Put one right into my Amazon cart. In our shower, we have a corner ceramic soap shelf, rounded at the edge. For some reason the water doesn't drain out of it very well (possibly installation-error as this was DIY). I like that it makes things convenient, but I try not to put soap on it b/c it will melt away in the standing water. In a way it is redundant b/c we also have a pre-formed Swanstone niche in the shower as well. I like the pre-formed niche a lot, it is VERY easy to clean and was easy to DIY install. The soap doesn't slip out of it and there are little ridges that allow the soap to dry. I think the integrated tiled niches look great and I would do that if I were having the bathroom tiled by a pro. But if it's DIY, I think the Swanstone is an excellent choice. We are currently remodeling our main bathroom, and bought an identical Swanstone shampoo/soap niche for the bath/shower combo b/c we love the one we installed in our master shower. Edit -- > we chose the matte white color, I think a lot of the other colors look oddly man-made. If it's going to look man-made, I like white ;-) Here is a link that might be useful: Swanstone shampoo shelf This post was edited by melle_sacto on Thu, Mar 20, 14 at 13:01...See MoreShower bench or shower niches?
Comments (9)How about just the bench and getting a great basket or tray (that drains) and putting your products in it? That way you can get both. This might work especially if the bench is at least partly shielded from view from outside, if you care about your products being out in the open. The niches are useful but they do take some extra cleaning and I have to say that I don't love them. (there have been threads on the value of niches--people have definite views!) The bench is a really nice look. I am not sure how much anyone really uses it to sit (maybe as I age, I will sing a different tune) but it is nice to prop up the leg when washing or shaving....See MoreSubway tile shower: niche 3/8" higher than 2nd niche. Noticeable?
Comments (9)I think this is what you are saying. Your niches are not like the original image but they are lined up in the middle of a row of tiles. But within that row, one niche is 3/8" higher than the other, like this: It would bug the heck out of me that they didn't start on a full tile in the first place, but that's usually how it ends up most of the time, like A or B. On top of that there is the3/8" height difference. I would have to compensate for this at the very least but using grout that matched the tile so I wasn't visually measuring that all the time. However, I was trained to differentiate between 0.5 of a mm for my job at one point, so 3/8" is huge to me visually. Not so with many people. Why do you know about it? Did you notice it yourself? If you did I think you have to have him change it. But if not, use grout that minimizes it....See Moreitsallaboutthefood
