Would anyone care to share pictures of your flower beds?
Comments (6)My favorite magazines are Fine Gardening and (for local info) Chicagoland Gardening. Here's a picture of my side yard from last year...A shady area. Comments (14)etcncr, I believe Nichiha is more expensive. Our delivered price with tax was right around $3/sf ... if I'm remembering correctly. This was on the Sierra Premium Shake, primed but not painted. We looked into having the shakes factory painted by Carolina Colortones and other companies who do this, but in the end it was most cost effective to buy the primed product and have our painter paint two coats on site. Plus our builder felt that by the time he finished installing the shakes, the nail holes and joints would need to be repainted with one coat of paint anyway. harringk, I've never used Hardi nor CertainTeed fiber cement products, so I can't speak from experience, but I did read a number of stories about blistering, cracks, fading, etc. in these brands. Hopefully some of these issues have been remedied. To me, the look of the Nichiha shakes is much more realistic....See MoreWill you share a picture of your home?
Comments (104)Pamghatten, the colors in your pictures are stunning! Mtnrdredux, that is a skylight and I hate it. It's over the middle of the kitchen and adds about 100 degrees of heat to the room. I've been exploring options to add a motorized solar shade that would filter out some of the sunlight during the hottest parts of the day. I can't put in a reflective shade because the build-up of heat could blow out the glass. I love your new beach house, BTW...gorgeous!!!...See MoreCare to share your dining room table?
Comments (4)Hi Domino, We've been absent from the forum for a long time. Our kitchen has been largely complete for several months and we'd stopped reading/posting (to) the kitchen forum with such urgency while we turned our attention to other renovation projects. Now, we're coming in on the home stretch and we're back. Threads, even comprehensive ones, do seem to get lost or forgotten in the archives of the kitchen forum. Newcomers and returning members seem to revive the same subjects again and again. Such is the nature of this incredible resource. I hope no one will mind if I tell you about our kitchen table here. We have a Duncan Phyfe table set, purchased through an ad in the Pennysaver (a newsprint precursor of Craigslist), many, many years ago. It has ideal proportions for us, and two leaves to allow it to expand for dinner parties. It has an old-timey elegance that can be adapted to many different decors. It is still a popular style, widely available used or in reproduction from fine furniture houses like Hickory Chair. When ours looked a little shabby in our new kitchen, we refinished it with a dark stain and gave it a new lease on life. I posted some pictures of it on a recent blog post about our ongoing kitchen renovation and search for a banquette. Here is a link that might be useful: Scroll down for pictures of our table and new banquette...See Morelandp
