Undercounter oven that won't break my back
Comments (11)There was a good thread on this called "If Miele breaks the budget...". I'm posting what Mindstorm said because I can't say it any better. She loved her Bosch 700 but thought it wasn't on the market. However, you might be able to get it on eBay or Craigs List. From Mindstorm: I have a Bosch oven. My two finalists were the Miele Novotronic and the Bosch 700. I eventually chose the Bosch for a variety of reasons (price difference between those two was small at the time - perhaps about $200 if that). I absolutely ADORE my Bosch oven - just I as I know I would have the Miele (I've cooked with them and really like them). My oven is dead-on precise in temperature, very responsive, very even and I love its convection functions. BUT that was then. If I were in those shoes today I would not get a Bosch on the market today; I would suck up the couple misgivings I had about the Miele 27" and go with it. I wouldn't bother with ELectroluxs and GEs and KAs and whatever else. Here's the reason - I have my Bosch installed undercounter also. The Bosch 700 ovens (the one I have that is no longer on the market so probably not an option for you) as well as the 27" Mieles are about 24" TALL. That means that you can install it just under teh counters about 6" above the bottom of the cabinet. That 6" makes a world of difference - you can get a drawer under the oven and furthermore, you won't be kneeling on the floor to get things in and out of it. Here's a link to a picture of mine - hopefully you can see what I mean. Its a very practical 5 or 6"! Now the new Bosch as well as all these others are full 30" tall ovens and personally I think they are all dreadfully awkward for an under cabinet installation. Only the Miele 27" has retained these sensible dimensions so if I may be so bold, I'd say to you that your options for an UC installation are - well, the Miele 27" w/ self-clean or the Miele 27" w/o self-clean ;-)...See MoreDiva/Miele Induction cooktops:Miele/Gaggenau ovens
Comments (0)We are planning to replace our under counter Miele oven and solid plate cooktop. We want to use an induction cooktop with an under-counter oven. We have a granite counter and a 24" nominal width cooktop, so we can only practically fit a 24" wide replacement induction cooktop. We are looking at a 3 burner Diva DDP3 and a new 3 burner Miele KM5947(supposed to be available in Canada early next year). Any advice on choosing between these two would be appreciated. We don't know the price of the Miele but suspect it may be more expensive than the Diva. For the oven, we are looking at the straight convection Miele H4682B or the Gaggenau BO250/251. We know that the Gaggenau is more expensive but it does come with a standard 5 year warranty. We would have liked to consider the Gaggenau steam oven but the complications of providing water supplies and drains in an existing condominium and the fact that it is an under counter installation has discouraged us. Any experience or advice would be greatly appreciated....See MoreWill I hate undercounter oven?
Comments (25)I woke up this morning resolving to put the oven on ice, and be happy for the extra storage instead, congratulating myself as I did so for saving those few thousand dollars. And then I read the follow-up posts! Thanks to everyone for thoroughly throwing my resolve into disarray! :-) For me, owls hits it on the head. I am feeling like this is a luxury, and there is a guilt blanket that seems to want to wrap itself around me, esp. b/c it's not my only oven, as it is for kate and sara. DH, to his credit, says we can do it if I want to do it, but it's precisely b/c he is so accommodating that I feel I need to be even more level-headed about budget (another topic entirely) -- he pretty much says I can have whatever I want, but of course I want all the lovely things that cost more than the not-as-lovely things, and boy, we could really get into trouble there if I ran away with that thought ... So, I watch budget carefully and make sure I can justify the decisions. I'll take the advice of checking one out first, but I don't think bending over will cause me strain; nor do I think it a fitness benefit, as I exercise regularly. Being not-youngish is a few decades away yet, and I don't expect to be in this house then. If we are, it'll be time for another reno. owls, your thought re. 36" v. 30" -- I love those "extra" (but essential!) 6". I do much (if not most) of my cooking on the range top, and I frequently have all six burners going, even if it's just a dinner for two! And, when I don't, there's more room for my big pots and pans. It never feels crowded. Love it. One thought that occurs to me that could help both budget and space is that I could shrink the 36" fridge to 30", and apply savings gained there toward the UC oven (why is Miele so pricey?). But, that brings up a whole other question of if a 30" fridge is enough ......See MoreWould under-counter mounting a Miele combi oven harm a countertop?
Comments (1)I don't think it would pose a problem to the counters, but I don't feel comfortable answering that. If you call Miele, you will get good advice, I think. The ventilation is for the electronics, NOT the steam. I retrofitted a combi steam in an existing cabinet, and I had to research that question. Basically, you need air circulation for electronics behind the oven....See Moredodge59
