Fridge with or without ice/water dispenser? In door icemake or in
Comments (5)I think it's a mixed bag. Some love them. Some hate them...mostly seems to be those who have had a catastrophic failure who hate them. Personally, my family has had had a leak happen at the dishwasher...I find the convenience of having a dishwasher worth the potential leak issue. I feel the same way about an in-door icemaker. We have the Kenmore Elite (has the same slim-in-door icemaker that you were describing). We've only had the icemaker running for a few months now and so far, I'm rather happy with it. A few little things that are slight annoyances - I wish that the ice cubes were just a bit larger. The formed ice cubes sometimes stick together, so you have to take out the ice hopper and break up the ice - nothing major and certainly not all the time, but an inconvenience to an extent - if you hope to never need to open the door to get ice, ours hasn't proven to be that way. But again, this has only happened a few times in the months that we've been using it. And if you are a very heavy ice-using family, the ice maker may not make enough ice for your needs. There's two of us in our family, and there's always plenty of ice for us (I'm a "light-ice" user and my DH is moderate. I would expect that it could supply our ice needs two times over without issue if necessary....See MoreA Word to the Wise re: French Door Fridge In-Door Ice Dispensers
Comments (16)I would just like to comment even though this is an older thread. French door refrigerators with in-the-door ice dispensers are known to have problems. This is due to the ice maker being located in the refrigerator area rather than the freezer area. All brands have problems. We had to replace our Samsung french door refrigerator after two years because of recurrent problems with ice buildup around the ice maker making it unusable. Samsung repairmen came out several times, the last time even replacing the entire ice maker but to no avail. After much research I learned that these all have problems despite the brand and although not everyone who has a French door refrigerator with an in-the-door ice dispenser will have problems, these types of refrigerators have an inordinate amount of issues necessitating repair or replacement. We finally bought a French door refrigerator with the ice maker in the bottom and have no problems....See MoreNeed refrigerator WITHOUT water/ice hole on door
Comments (5)Go to this website: http://www.us-appliance.com/ They have detailed info on all the major refrigerators. You can even download owner's manuals in some cases. You should be able to find what you're looking for. BTW, you don't have to buy from this company if you don't want to. I have never bought from them, so I cannot say how reliable they are. But their prices seem very good. After you have found the fridge you want, go to your local appliance dealer and tell him. If you says he can't get it for you, contact the manufacturer's customer service by 800 #, and ask them for a dealer near you that carries it. If that doesn't work, then your only choice is to buy on the Internet from a retail merchant such as this one. They should not charge for delivery or sales tax. Make sure it's "white glove" delivery, or else they'll just leave the appliance in front of your house and you'll have to arrange separately to get it in place. I'm sure you can get what you're looking for. Happy hunting....See MoreAutomatic Ice Dispenser on Refrigerator Not Making Ice (4 Pics)
Comments (5)Thank you so much for all your thoughtful responses. I'm pleased to say i awoke this morning to see ice had collected in the bucket. Last night, i used a hair dryer (of all things!) to melt some ice that had hardened around and within the black rubber tube that apparently feeds water into the ice tray. Although i'm not entirely certain this will represent a long-term fix, for now at least it seems i may have dodged this home-maintenance bullet. Thank you again for your thoughts everyone, and have a great New Year!...See Morecat_mom
