I know you've decided to settle with the palm, and I don't blame you, and I don't want you to feel you have to patiently and politely respond to me - ignore me, I thought I'd post for any lurkers or people who just want to think about this problem as an academic design exercise! I actually think the plant looks pretty good and I'm just exercising my brain here. I too would take away the night stand, and put in a long low dresser that functions as a night stand and also fills most of that wall - a nice 6 or 9 drawer unit would be my choice with a lamp by the bed, a plant or something else in view from the hall. One reason I wouldn't make it a table is that there are getting to be too many legs in sight as you look down the hall. I would also like it to be evident that you're looking into a bedroom and not just a bend in the hall. And just a vertical accent just adds more linearity to the view; my brain wants to add something horizontal. Notwithstanding that, I love the knight - the idea, and the real life interpretation :-) KarinL

Schiskal - the room is not very big - it's 14' 8" x 12'6" with a 7x5' entrance way with an attached bath. I was afraid the bed would overwhelm the room but not at all. It looks perfect in it. The lighting is from modernica.com, same co. that made the bed. I love the light fixture and it lights up the room nicely. LOL@aklvdb You can be the first! Outsideplaying-the floor is some sort of solid surface in light grey. I very much like the color and it looks good with walnut. Thanks jlc712! I will definitely check them out. I agree! It needs a rug and some artwork on the walls. I'm really happy with this bed. I was worried it would look brutalistic but not at all!

The flying buttresses were designed just that way ... I know ... I know ... Was thinking about the half wall would look with the top of it about 6-8" lower than the corner post (assuming it isn't structural - I can't see it being since the vault has no other supports that match it - and, I have seen other floor plans from the same builder that didn't have the same components) ...top both the shorter wall (it would be 3 1/2 + 1/2 + 1/2=4 1/2", and the posts are about 12" or so) and the new post with the same material as the new countertops? ... or, just cap with 1X stock and paint it to match trim? We could live with the countertops in the bathrooms (poured in a mold stuff), but we want kitchen to look more current. Drop in stove doesn't have the controls sticking up behind it ... always wondered why they are there :-) And, what about those beamy things in the kitchen? :-) Like a fad at the time, I guess ... pull the ones over the islandish counter and drop some pendants from the ceiling - will need to get some more light, too ... LED's pretty easy (had done lots of these in various styles) with some form of articulating mounting.
