Depth, panel-ready fridge

hi,

I have a new Kitchenaid french door refrigerator, freezer drawer on bottom for my new kitchen. The cabinet maker built a lovely space for it, along with panels. Today, they put on the panels and pushed it into the space. Well, it's great from the front, but it sticks out several inches apparently to allow for the doors opening. The problem is, the sides (outside edges) of the doors are black, and the panels are a stained fruitwood, (like the surrounding piece of cabinet built for it). I wonder what is the best solution to make it look better.

Can we put a piece of thin panel on the SIDES (edges) of the doors, and if so, how can we attach them? THere IS adequate space to open the door (I checked) if we could do it. Or just rebuild the whole cabinet ($$) to be deeper and a tad wider to accomodate the door opening, but not view the edges of the doors!

Any good suggestions would be much appreciated~
